BASEBALL
GREGG LASWELL, Washington and Lee,
Senior, Pitcher
Laswell, a senior from Houston, Texas, tossed
his second complete game in as many starts on Saturday. He picked
up the win in W&L’s 3-2 come-from-behind win over
Hampden-Sydney. Laswell, who took a no hitter into the sixth,
limited the Tigers to two runs on three hits and three walks with
10 strikeouts. On the season, he is 3-1 in 11 appearances (4
starts) and has recorded 41 strikeouts to just seven walks.

BASEBALL
JORDAN WALTON, Randolph-Macon, Junior,
1st Base
Walton, a junior from Mechanicsville, Va.,
highlighted the Randolph-Macon offense last week, going 12-for-23
(.521) at the dish with six doubles, a homerun and 11 RBI over the
Yellow Jackets five contests. Walton is currently riding a
seven-game hitting streak and has also doubled in five consecutive
games. Against Maryville on Thursday, the senior first baseman put
the Jackets in the lead for good with a grand slam in the fifth
inning. Walton also added two doubles and walk to finish the game
3-for-5, having reached base in 4-of-6 plate appearances.

GOLF
NOAH RATNER, Guilford,
Sophomore
Ratner, a sophomore from Asheville, Va., shot
68-69-76--213 to place 15th among 160 golfers at the 40th Annual
Intercollegiate Golf Tournament at Paradise Point Golf Club this
weekend. Guilford placed 13th in the tournament, competing in the
Gold (Gold Course) portion of the event. Ratner shot two under par
on Friday, three under par on Saturday, and four over par on
Sunday. He placed the highest of any ODAC competitor in the
field.

MEN'S LACROSSE
COLE HAWTHORNE, Hampden-Sydney, Senior,
Midfielder
Hawthorne, a senior from Richmond, Va.,
became the second Tiger this season to score eight goals and one
assist in one game, tying the school’s second best mark for
single season goals. Cole accomplished the feat on just 10 shots in
a 16-6 win over Greensboro. He followed up that performance with a
two-goal, three-assist outing in a 10-4 victory against Catholic.
For the week, Hawthorne posted 10 goals and four assists for 14
points along with five groundballs and two caused turnovers. Cole
leads the team in goals (18) and points (29) and is second on the
squad in assists (11).

MEN'S TENNIS
SHAD HARRELL, Hampden-Sydney, Senior, No.
2 Singles, No. 2 Doubles
Harrell, a senior from Richmond, Va., went
undefeated in both singles and doubles this week as the Tigers went
3-0 for the week. Participating at #2 singles, Harrell won all
three matches in convincing fashion, winning each in straight sets
while winning all six sets by a margin of three or more games. In
#2 doubles competition with Kevin Calhoun, he won all three matches
by at least five points, including an 8-0 win against Roanoke. Shad
is 4-1 for the season in singles play and 6-0 in doubles
competition.

OUTDOOR TRACK
JOHN MICHAEL PAVIA, Lynchburg, Senior,
Throws
Pavia, a senior from Forest, Va., competed in
the NCAA Divsion I-heavy Richmond Invitational over the weekend. He
set a new ODAC season top time in the hammer, tossing the apparatus
52.29 meters (171'7") to place second overall and first amongst
Division III competitors. Pavia's throw narrowly missed the NCAA
provisional qualifying mark of 53.00 meters. The throw
out-distances the ODAC's second-best toss by more than 16 feet.

OUTDOOR TRACK
WHITNEY FITZWATER, Roanoke, Senior,
Throws
Fitzwater, a senior from Middletown, Del.,
posted a pair of victories at the Jopson Invitational, setting a
new meet and facility record in the process. Fitzwater won the
hammer throw with a toss of 47.64 meters (156'3"), setting the meet
and Jopson Stadium facility record in the discipline. She later
went on to win the javelin with a throw of 31.80 meter (104'4").
Fitzerwater competed in two more events, finishing fourth in the
discus (30.93 meters/101'6") and fifth in the shot put (10.12
meters/33'2.5").

SOFTBALL
HEATHER JENKINS, Bridgewater, Sophomore,
Pitcher
Jenkins, a sophomore from Locust Grove, Va.,
picked up three big wins in the circle on the week, leading
Bridgewater to a 3-1 week overall. Jenkins picked up a complete
game victory on Thursday against CNU, striking out nine in the
process. Over the weekend, the sophomore hurler tossed a complete
game six-hit shutout, striking out eight in a 3-0 win over Roanoke,
before earning the win in a relief appearance in game two. Jenkins
punched out 20 batters on the week, and earned her 10th win of the
year on Saturday.

SOFTBALL
BROOKE HENSLEY, Eastern Mennonite,
Freshman, Shortstop
Hensley, a freshman from Elkton, Va., helped
the Lady Royals extend their winning streak to 10 games. In
Thursday’s sweep of Frostburg State, a fellow 2010 NCAA
Tournament qualifier, Hensley was 7-for-8 from the plate (.875)
with eight RBIs and three runs scored. She racked up seven of those
RBIs in the nightcap. All of her RBIs came with two outs. She had a
pair of two-run singles, and then ended the game in the sixth,
emptying the loaded bases with a triple to seal the 15-5 score.
Hensley finished the game 4-for-5 with seven RBIs. In the first
game, the shortstop was 3-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and a
RBI.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE
LESLEY BUCKINGHAM, Lynchburg, Junior,
Attack
Buckingham, a junior from Herndon, Va.,
scored nine goals and added an assist as the Lynchburg College
women’s lacrosse team rolled to a pair of ODAC victories at
Virginia Wesleyan College and Bridgewater. She added five ground
balls and seven draw controls for the week. She opened the stretch
with a four-goal day in a 14-8 win over the Marlins in which she
also added three draw controls and five groundballs. Buckingham
recorded five goals and an assist in the Hornets 18-7 triumph over
the Eagles. Buckingham currently leads the ODAC with 35 goals
scored.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
BRITTANY WILSON, Bridgewater, Freshman,
No. 4 Singles, No. 3 Doubles
Wilson, a freshman from Lynchburg, Va.,
remained hot in the Spring with a 3-0 week at No. 4 singles and a
perfect 3-0 week in No. 3 doubles to help pace the Bridgewater
Eagles to an unbeaten week in women’s tennis action. She
opened the week with a 6-2, 7-5 win against Southern Virginia,
before rolling to a 6-2, 6-1 win against the Vixens of Sweet Briar.
Finally, Wilson earned a 7-5, 6-0 win on Saturday against Virginia
Wesleyan. Wilson also teamed with Olivia Stone to go unbeaten in
doubles action with 8-3, 8-4 and 8-1 victories, respectively.
Currently, the freshman is riding a 10 match unbeaten streak in
singles play, and a six match winning streak in doubles action.
