Washington and Lee Sweeps ODAC Commissioner's Cups in Record Style

FOREST, Va. --- A stellar spring campaign that saw Washington and Lee University finish in the top-three in all nine sports in which it competed and claim five conference titles led the Generals to victories in each of the ODAC Commissioner's Cup standings, presented by Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance. W&L set records for highest rating points in each cup since the ODAC Board of Directors enacted the current method of determining a Cup winner in 2008-09.

Virginia Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance is the proud sponsor for the Dan Wooldridge Overall Champions Cup and the ODAC Men and Women's Commissioner's Cups.  Farm Bureau and the ODAC continue their partnership in focusing on the strength of the conference's student-athletes and maintaining the NCAA Division III philosophy of the complete student-athlete experience.  Aside from supporting the ODAC Commissioners' Cups, Farm Bureau is the sponsor of the ODAC's sport-by-sport scholar-athlete awards.

As determined by the ODAC Board of Directors, points for the ODAC Commissioner's Cups are based on regular-season standings in team sports and championship team finishes in individual/meet sports.  Each institution has a total number of possible points it can collect based on its sport sponsorship.  The total number of points earned is then divided by the total number of possible points to determine the rating for each institution.

Washington and Lee led in all three cups after the fall season, only to see Lynchburg storm ahead to take up the top position in the men's cup following the winter season.  But the Generals posted one of the most successful spring campaigns in recent memory, capping a 2015-16 athletic calendar that saw W&L collect 192.0 of a possible 221.0 points for a Wooldridge Cup record 0.869 rating. The Generals margin of victory over second place Lynchburg (0.667) also set a new current-system record with a 0.202 victory.

Six schools earned a 0.600 rating or better in the overall cup.  In addition to W&L and LC, Randolph-Macon College (0.658) jumped over both Roanoke College (0.631) and Bridgewater College (0.623) for third place. Virginia Wesleyan College (0.609) completes the six-team grouping.

In the women's cup, Washington and Lee's winning mark of 0.895 set a new conference standard along with its winning margin of 0.184 over second-place Randolph-Macon (0.711).  The Generals gathered 102.0 points of a possible 114.0. Lynchburg (0.693) finished third, while Roanoke (0.655) and Bridgewater (0.621) round out the top-five.

It was more the same in terms of records for Washington and Lee in the men's cup. The Generals earned 90.0 of a possible 107.0 points for a 0.841 rating and a record margin of victory of 0.183 over Virginia Wesleyan (0.658). The Marlins jumped from fifth in the winter to second by securing 36.0 of a possible 51.0 points this spring. Lynchburg (0.637), Bridgewater (0.626) and Roanoke (0.605) account for the remainder of the top-five.
