ODAC Players of the Week

Thru Week Prior to: March 28, 2016

BASEBALL - PITCHER
Ryan Leake, Bridgewater, Sr., Pitcher
Leake, a senior from Fredericksburg, Va., helped the Eagles to a 3-0 triumph over ninth-ranked Shenandoah last week. He worked 8.0 shutout innings, giving up four hits while also walking four batters. He struck out just one batter, but rolled up 18 groundball outs on the way to his second victory of the season. Leake is currently 2-2 with a 2.25 earned run average. He's given up just 22 hits in 32.0 innings of work.

BASEBALL - HITTER
Travis Lodge, Randolph-Macon, Sr., Third Base
Lodge, a senior from Chesterfield, Va., reached base in 13-of-18 plate appearances on the way to a .688 batting average, .700 on-base percentage, and 1.438 slugging percentage in Randolph-Macon's 3-0-1 week. Lodge went 11-for-16 overall with four homeruns, 12 runs driven in, and 11 runs scored. He was 5-for-5 with two homers, five RBI and four runs scored to go with a walk in a 16-15 victory over Virginia Wesleyan. He followed that with two hits including a homer and three RBI in a 12-12 tie at York (Pa.). Lodge smacked his fourth homer of the week as part of a sweep of Eastern Mennonite, going 4-for-7 with four RBI and four runs scored against the Royals. He was 3-for-5 in game two, registering the round-tripper with two RBI and three runs scored. For the season, Lodge leads the ODAC in hitting (.492), OBP (.573) and slugging (1.066). His nine homeruns top the charts, while his 27 RBI are second.

MEN'S GOLF
Josh Alderfer, Eastern Mennonite, Jr.
Alderfer, a junior from Faber, Va., led Eastern Mennonite to a seventh-place showing at the Lynchburg College Invitational hosted by the Hornets at Poplar Grove in Amherst, Va. Alderfer finished in a tie for ninth overall at 10-over par 154 and six shots off the three-way tie at the top of the standings at 4-over. After opening with an 83 in the first round, Alderfer recovered to not only card his finest collegiate round, but set a new program record with a 1-under 71. That also proved to be the low-round for the tournament, resulting in his first top-10 finish of the season. Alderfer currently owns a 77.8 scoring average thru 10 rounds of competition.

WOMEN'S GOLF
Olivia Bowling, Randolph-Macon, Sr.
Bowling, a senior from Charlotte Hall, Md., claimed her first tournament victory of the season, finishing four shots clear of the next closest competitor at the Max and Susan Stith Invitational hosted by Randolph-Macon at The Hollows in Montpelier, Va. Bowling posted rounds of 75 and 73 towards a 4-over par 148. Her efforts helped the Yellow Jackets to second place in the team standings at 642, just eight stroke behind NCAA Division II member Kutztown for the team title. Bowling, rated 22nd in NCAA Division III by Golfstat, is currently second in the ODAC with a 77.0 scoring average.

MEN'S LACROSSE
A.J. Witherell, Washington and Lee, Fr., Attack
Witherell, a freshman from Wilmington, Del., picks up his second ODAC weekly award of the season after helping lead the Generals to a 2-0 week that included a conference victory on the road at #16 Lynchburg. Witherell registered nine points on the week, starting off with three goals in a 7-6 triumph at Colby College. His goal late in third quarter -- W&L's final score -- proved to be the deciding tally. At Lynchburg, Witherell came up with a six-point day, notching three goals to go along with three assists. He recorded at least one point in each quarter of play. W&L's victory marked the first ODAC loss for LC since 2014. For the season, Witherell leads Washington and Lee with 27 points on 20 goals and seven assists. His points and goals totals rank ninth and eighth in the ODAC, respectively.

MEN'S TENNIS
Graham Wilson, Virginia Wesleyan, Sr., #1 Singles, #1 Doubles
Wilson, a senior from Newport News, Va., put together a solid week as Virginia Wesleyan squared off with four regionally or nationally-ranked programs amongst its five spring break matches. Wilson went 3-2 at #1 singles, highlighted by a 6-3, 3-6, 10-7 triumph over the ITA Central Region's 19th ranked player, Michael Treis from nationally 16th-ranked UW-Whitewater. Wilson picked up his second win against central regional #11 Oberlin, topping Michael Douglas 2-6, 6-2, 6-3. Following a loss to central region #10 Carleton's #1 player, Wilson picked up a 2-6, 6-1, 10-3 triumph over Joey Kronzer from St. Olaf College, helping the Marlins to an 8-1 victory. Wilson also squared off with nationally 50th-ranked Thomas Manning from central region #15 Allegheny College, falling to AC's #1 (7-6, 6-2). Wilson and doubles teammate Adam Rosemblaum picked up a win at #1 doubles against Carleton, posting an 8-4 triumph over Christian Nagy and Jordon O'Kelly.

MEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK - FIELD
Jeremy Heizer, Eastern Mennonite, Sr., Throws
Heizer, a senior from Staunton, Va., shined in the throws at the Raleigh Relays last week. In the shot put, he posted a new personal record of 15.54 meters (51' 0.0") to take over the top spot in the ODAC by more 1.54 meters. Heizer's throw placed 16th overall and first among NCAA Division III in the event at the meet. His mark also sits 10th in the country.

MEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK - TRACK
Harrison Toney, Roanoke, Sr., Distance
Toney, a senior from Roanoke, Va., smoked the field in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Winthrop Adidas Invitational. Toney won the event by 23-seconds over the next closest competitor from N.C. A&T, posting a time of 9:15.17. That mark is currently the #1 time in NCAA Division III and came within 0:03 seconds of tying the ODAC record he set last season.

WOMEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK - FIELD
Rolonda Taylor, Virginia Wesleyan, So., Jumps
Taylor, a sophomore from Norfolk, Va., posted a pair of ODAC top marks while competing at the Commonwealth Duals. Taylor won the high jump by eclipsing 1.59 meters (5' 2.5"), which ties with W&L's Maggie Kleber for the top height in the conference. She added a second place showing in the triple jump by bounding 10.50 meters (34' 5.5"), good for solo position atop the ODAC charts. Taylor added a fourth-place performance in the long jump, hitting the sand at 5.07 meters (16' 7.75").

WOMEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK - TRACK
Hannah Chappell-Dick, Eastern Mennonite, Sr., Mid-Distance
Chappell-Dick, a senior from Bluffton, Ohio, posted a pair of national top-three performances at the Raleigh Relays over the weekend. Chappell-Dick started off with the 1,500-meter run, finishing 29th overall with a time of 4:33.74. That is the top-time in the ODAC and third in NCAA Division III. The next day, Chappell-Dick competed in the 800-meter run and again put herself atop the conference charts with a sixth-place time of 2:10.26. That mark sits second in the country.

SOFTBALL - PITCHER
Kandis Kresinske, Virginia Wesleyan, Fr., Pitcher
Kresinske, a freshman from Chesapeake, Va., picks up her second weekly award of the season after going 2-0 in two ODAC starts last week. She opened with four innings in a 9-0 five-inning victory over Eastern Mennonite. She gave up just one hit and didn't walk a batter. She struck out three Royals. Kresinske followed that with a complete-game three-hit shutout of Lynchburg, 3-0. In addition to the three hits, she allowed three free passes and fanned four in her seven innings of work. For the season, Kresinske is 7-1 with a 0.96 earned run average in 43.2 innings of work. He wins rank third in the ODAC, while her ERA sits second. Opposing hitters are batting just .192 against her.

SOFTBALL - HITTER
Blake Henderson, Virginia Wesleyan, Jr., Outfielder
Henderson, a junior from Virginia Beach, Va., helped the Marlins to a 4-0 week with ODAC sweeps of Eastern Mennonite (2-0, 9-0) and Lynchburg (4-1, 3-0). She went 7-for-12 for the week with two doubles, five RBI, three runs scored and two stolen bases. She was 5-for-6 in the sweep of EMU, smacking a double in game one and collecting three RBI between the two games. She was 3-for-3 in the second contest, swiping a pair of bases. Henderson added a hit in each contest against Lynchburg, registering a double with two RBI in game one and coming around to score in the nightcap. For the season, Henderson is hitting .431. She ranks fourth in the ODAC with 23 RBI and is ninth with 25 hits.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE
Melissa Coggins, Washington and Lee, Sr., Attack
Coggins, a senior from St. John's Fla., was the engine for the Generals' offense as Washington and Lee posted a pair of ODAC victories last week. Coggins registered eight points last week, all on assists as she directed W&L to victories over Shenandoah and Lynchburg. In an 18-6 triumph over SU, she dished out a pair of helpers to go with three ground balls and a caused turnovers. Coggins followed that with six assists in a 13-12 nailbiter over LC. She added a ground ball to her stat line. Coggins is currently third in the ODAC with 17 assists. Her 24 points top the Generals' charts and rank ninth in the conference.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
Brooke Donnelly, Washington and Lee, Sr., #1 Singles, #1 Doubles
Donnelly, a junior from Kennesaw, Ga., put together an unbeaten week against ODAC and national top-flight competition. In a 9-0 team victory over Bridgewater, Donnelly won 6-0, 6-1 at #1 singles and joined Tessa Hill for an 8-0 victory at #1 doubles. Washington and Lee, ranked 13th in the country by the ITA, then squared off with #11 Carnegie Mellon. Despite a 5-4 team setback between, Donnelly pulled out a pair of wins. Donnelly, rated 27th in the country and sixth in the Atlantic South Region, took down #16/4 Brooke Tsu 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 in singles play. Donnelly and Hill then claimed an 8-2 triumph over Minami Makino and Cori Sidell in doubles action.
