ODAC Players of the Week

Byrd, a senior from Grottoes, Va., was all over the field in the Wasps' 55-7 season-opening rout of Ferrum College on Saturday. He adjusted quickly -- and well -- to his new role as strong safety in Week 1, moving from corner during the offseason. He made a total of 13 tackles against Panther ball-carriers, including eight solo stops. Byrd also came away 2.5 tackles for a loss, costing Ferrum 15 yards of offense. That total included a quarterback sack for a loss of eight yards. His efforts helped spearhead a defense that was on the field for nearly 37 minutes, but allowed only 233 yards and forced six turnovers.

Morley, a junior from Olney, Md., helped erase the memory of McDaniel College's 34-31 comeback victory in the 2014 season-opener with some late heroics of his own. Morley saved his best play in the Cardinals' 2015 lid-lifter for the fourth quarter as he helped lead Catholic to a 34-33 come-from-behind victory over the Green Terror. Morley hauled in three of his four touchdowns on the day in the final 13:02 to the game, including the deciding score with 0:13 on the clock to complete a 49-yard scoring play. Morley had scores of 18 and nine yards in the frame, adding to the eight-yard touchdown he recorded late in the third quarter. Morley finished with a career-high 13 receptions for 210 yards.

Schauder, a freshman from Bryn Athyn, Pa., made her collegiate debut a memorable one as she helped the Maroons to a 1-0 overtime victory over Stevenson University, helping Roanoke to a 2-0 start to the 2015 season. Schauder made 17 saves over the course of 66-plus minutes minding RC's cage, including three stops of penalty strokes in the first 25 minutes of the contest.

Palmer, a junior from Kernersville, N.C., led Guilford to a share of second place at the Transylvania Fall Invitational, posting a three round total of 213 to finish tied for fourth at 3-under par. Palmer opened with a 3-under 69 before falling back in round two with a 5-over 77. The Quakers as a team were 22 shots off their first round score (284 to 306), but Palmer led a powerful rebound that saw Guilford fire the 12th lowest team round in school history with a 6-under 282 to jump from ninth place to a tie for second. Palmer shot a tournament-best 5-under 67, one stroke shy of his career-low.

Herbert, a sophomore from Williamsburg, Va., started off the 2015-16 campaign in winning fashion as she finished as the medalist out of 90 players at the Lynn Schweizer Invitational hosted by Denison University. She posted rounds of 71 and 73 to finish at 2-over par 144 and three strokes clear of the second place finisher. The 71 and 73 are two of the five lowest rounds of Herbert's career. Her efforts helped Bridgewater to a second place team showing, 10 strokes back of nationally second-ranked (by Golfstat) Wittenberg University.

Maye, a sophomore from Reston, Va., helped Shenandoah University start its season on the foot with a pair of victories in the first week. Maye opened his 2015 account with an assist in a 4-0 triumph over Wilson. He then followed that up with two goals, including the game-deciding tally, a 3-2 victory over Ferrum.

Jessee, a junior from Roanoke, Va., put together a six-point week for the Generals, helping them to a 2-0 start following play at the Salisbury Tournament. She scored twice in a 4-2 win against the host Sea Gulls, including an 18-yard strike for her second tally. She then dished out assists on both of W&L's goals in a 2-1 triumph over Stevenson University.

Lowers, a senior from Suffolk, Va., led Randolph-Macon to a 5-1 start to its season with a strong showing over six matches. Lowers registered 69 total kills, 57 digs, nine total blocks and four aces. She hammered out 18 winners with 10 digs in a 3-0 win over Rivier. In a 3-2 triumph over Mary Washington, Lowers went for 14 kills, 18 digs and four solo blocks. Her third double-double came via 12 winners and a dozen digs in the Yellow Jackets lone setback of the week to Wartburg.

Strehler, a junior from Moseley, Va., was the top NCAA Division III competitor to finish at the Galen Piper Invitational hosted by Shippensburg University. Strehler stopped the watches at 19:41 to place eighth overall and just ahead of Zachary Simmons from nationally-ranked Dickinson University for top D-III honors. Washington and Lee placed fourth our of eight total competing programs.

Shrader, a junior from Manchester, Md., kicked off the 2015 campaign on the right foot as she won the individual title at the Salisbury Fall Classic. Her time of 23:29.58 topped the second place finisher by nearly nine seconds over the six-kilometer layout. Her efforts helped SU to fifth in the nine-team standings. Shrader also ran the three-mile track at the Bridgewater Challenge, placing fourth in 20:38.0.
