ODAC Players of the Week

Rascoe, a senior from Pikesville, Md., led a Guilford defense that limited Averett to just one first down in the second half on the way to a 58-21 victory. Rascoe made 12 total tackles including eight solo stops. He was in the backfield most of the afternoon, registering four tackles for a loss which included a quarterback sack. His efforts cost the Cougars 21 yards of offense. He also beat an Averett ball-carrier to the goal-line for a safety, tackling him in the painted grass after recovering an errant snap. Rascoe leads Guilford with 20 total tackles, 14 solo stops and five tackles for a loss thru three games.

Smith, a senior from Mocksville, N.C., etched his name under a pair of Guilford record book entries on the way to accounting for 20 points in Guilford's 58-21 win over Averett. Smith became the Quakers all-time leader in touchdown receptions and career receiving yardage by hauling in a season-high 11 passes for 195 yards and a personal-best three touchdowns. He now has 35 touchdown catches and 3,190 career receiving yards with the former ranking fourth in ODAC history and the latter just shy of cracking the conference's top-five. Smith notched touchdowns of 13, 25 and 25 yards, with the last score coming on a double-tipped pass for the record. He also added a catch to convert a two-point opportunity. The 195 yards marks his school-record 14th game of 100 or more receiving yards. Smith currently leads the ODAC in receiving yards (464), yards per catch (18.6) and receiving touchdowns (7), while sitting second in receptions (25).

Stanley, a sophomore from Bumpass, Va., stood tall in a pair of overtime victories for Randolph-Macon last week, one of which came down to penalty strokes. Stanley made 34 total saves in the Yellow Jackets wins over St. Mary's (Md.) and Roanoke, surrendering three goals overall. She made 20 stops in a 3-2 win over the Seahawks, which required penalty strokes to decide. She made three saves apiece in the two overtime periods, and then came thru with the clinching save in the second of penalty strokes after R-MC had gone ahead, 3-2. Against Roanoke, Stanley preserved a 2-1 victory with 14 saves, including 10 in the second half and two more in overtime. Stanley currently leads the ODAC with 88 saves while boasting an .830 save percentage.

Cox, a sophomore from Ashland, Ky., won his second tournament in as many weeks, claiming medalist honors at the Shenandoah Fall Invitational. Cox fired a 1-under 71 in the first round with the course set at par-72, and followed that with an even-par 71 with the course shortened by 500 yards and adjusted to par-71. Cox's efforts were joined by several strong performances by his teammates as the Marlins captured the team title. VWC shot team rounds of 305 and 293 for a 26-over 598, the first sub-600 team score for Virginia Wesleyan golf since March 2004.

Freed, a sophomore from Alexandria, Va., kicked off her season with a runner-up finish at the O'Brien Invitational hosted by St. Mary's College (Ind.). Freed opened with a 2-over 74 before posting an even-par 72 for a 2-over 146 at the Knollwood Country Club in South Bend, Ind. Her efforts helped Washington and Lee to a fourth-place showing out of 10 teams.

McHugh, a junior from Aberdeen, Md., had a hand in five of Randolph-Macon's seven goals last week as he helped lead the Yellow Jackets to a pair of victories. McHugh started with a goal and two assists in a 5-0 win over William Peace. His goal came via a converted penalty kick. Later in the week, he contributed to both of R-MC's tallies, dishing out a pair of assists in a 2-0 win at Stevenson. McHugh currently leads the ODAC with six assists and is tied for third with eight total points.

Foster, a sophomore from Mechanicsburg, Pa., put together a nine-point performance in the Hornets' 2-1 week. She started off with a hat-trick and an assist in Lynchburg's 5-0 win over Salem. She followed that up with a dramatic game-winner in it's ODAC-opener against Roanoke, finding the back of the net for the game's only goal in the 107th minute of the second overtime period. LC's week also included a 1-0 loss to nationally fifth-ranked Trinty (Texas), snapping top-ranked Lynchburg's 34-game unbeaten streak.

Shand, a junior from Saline, Mich., put together a strong week in leading Washington and Lee to a trio of wins in its first three ODAC matches. Shand hit .582 from her middle position, committing just four errors in 55 total attacks. She recorded double-digit kills in each match, hammering out 13 winners and a .600 hitting percentage with three digs and three blocks (1 solo) in a 3-0 win at Lynchburg. She added 12 kills with two aces and four digs against Hollins (3-0) and 11 more kills versus Randolph (3-0). She finished with week with 36 overall kills at a 4.0 per game clip, adding in nine digs and five total blocks (3 solo). Shand currently leads the ODAC in hitting percentage (.407) and is fifth in blocks (0.80/game).

Toney, a senior from Roanoke, Va., picks up his second straight weekly award after winning an event for the second time in as many tries. Toney topped the field at the Maroon Invitational, finishing the eight-kilometer course at Mowles Spring Park in a time of 28:19.0. He finished 43 seconds again of the second-place time. Toney's efforts helped Roanoke to first in the team ranks.

Ashley, a junior from Warrenton, Va., completed Roanoke's sweep of its own event, the Maroon Invitational, by claiming first place individually and helping RC to the top spot in the team standings. Ashley completed the five-kilometer track at Mowles Spring Park in a time of 20:42.0 to mark the fastest time at this meet since 2011. She finished 22-seconds clear of second place.
