ODAC Players of the Week

Thru Week Prior to: October 5, 2015

FOOTBALL
Sidney Henry, Hampden-Sydney, Sr., Cornerback
Henry, a senior from Haymarket, Va., helped the Tigers move to 3-1 in Hampden-Sydney's 38-21 win over Catholic. In addition to making eight tackles, Henry posted his second two-interception game of the season. Both of his interceptions came at key points in the game, with his first putting a stop to the Cardinals first drive of the game and leading to a 7-0 H-SC lead. His second came early in the fourth quarter when he came down with the ball at the Hampden-Sydney eight-yard line and returned it 34 yards to setup a six-minute scoring drive that essentially sealed the contest. Henry nearly scored a touchdown on a special teams play at the end of the first half when he picked up a blocked punt and returned it 56 yards before being brought down at the CUA six-yard line as time expired. Henry currently leads the ODAC with four interceptions.

FOOTBALL
Kyree Koonce, Hampden-Sydney, Fr., Running Back
Koonce, a freshman from Charlottesville, Va., exploded to post the ODAC's highest rushing yardage-day of the season in the Tigers 38-21 victory over Catholic. Koonce carried the ball 30 times for 203 yards, finishing just 24 yards shy of breaking the Hampden-Sydney single-game rushing record. He notched a pair of touchdowns, scoring via a 32-yard dash for the game's first touchdown and then finding pay-dirt to finish off a 15-yard play early in the second quarter. Koonce also caught four passes for 38 yards, giving him 241 all-purpose yards and an average of 7.1 yards per touch. Koonce in currently second in the ODAC in overall rushing yards (437) and yards per game (109.3), while sitting third in touchdown runs (5) and yards per rush (7.2).

FIELD HOCKEY
Kendall Bernard, Washington and Lee, Fr., Midfielder
Bernard, a freshman from Houston, Texas, helped the Generals to a 2-0 week that included the program's first win over Lynchburg College since the 2005 ODAC Championship game. Following a 5-0 win at Ferrum, Bernard scored twice in a 3-1 win over the 10th-ranked Hornets. She scored the tying goal 10 minutes into the second half off an assist from Maggie Waxter, and then added her second tally in a one-on-one effort against the keeper in the 63rd minute. The win over LC marks the Hornets' first regular season league loss since 2008. The two goals were the first of Bernard's career.

GOLF
Austin Fockler, Hampden-Sydney, So.
Fockler, a sophomore from Richmond, Va., enjoyed his first collegiate victory at the Virginia State Golf Association (VSGA) Intercollegiate. He joins Virginia Wesleyan's Evan Cox in posting three event wins over the first five-plus weeks of competition for ODAC golfers. Fockler opened with a 3-over par 73 on the 6,324-yard par-70 layout at Heritage Oaks Golf Club in Harrisonburg, Va. He improved upon his effort by six strokes to post the second-lowest round of the tournament with a 3-under 67 in round two to finish at even-par 140. His efforts helped Hampden-Sydney placed sixth (590) among 12 teams. The 67 is the lowest of Fockler's career and the best round posted by a Tiger since Brian Burt fired a 67 in the second round of the 2014 NCAA Division III National Championship.

MEN'S SOCCER
Ben Bayles, Washington and Lee, Sr., Midfielder
Bayles, a senior from Fleming Island, Fla., scored three goals in the Generals' two ODAC wins last week. His first goal came in the 66th minute of a 6-0 win over Emory & Henry in a midweek matchup. He followed with two goals in a 4-0 triumph over Guilford, converting a penalty kick in the 10th minute and tallying again in the 17th minute. He currently leads the ODAC in points (13) and goals scored (6).

WOMEN'S SOCCER
Erin Septer, Shenandoah, Jr., Goalkeeper
Septer, a junior from Hamilton, N.J., recorded the 10th and 11th shutouts of her career in pair of ODAC victories. She came up with five saves in a 3-0 win over Randolph-Macon. She followed that with four saves in helping to preserve a 1-0 triumph on the road at Roanoke. Septer is currently fifth in the ODAC in both saves (43) and save percentage (.754).

VOLLEYBALL
Kaitlyn Kelley, Shenandoah, So., Outside Hitter
Kelley, a sophomore from Broadlands, Va., helped Shenandoah to a 3-0 week with 3-0 wins over Gallaudet and Guilford and a 3-2 triumph over Goucher. Kelley was responsible for 36.5 points of the Hornets' offense, collecting 28 kills and 23 digs to go with six aces and four blocks. She had 10 kills each against Guilford and Gallaudet, adding five digs, three blocks and two aces against the Quakers. Versus Goucher, she went for eight kills, 16 digs, four assists and three aces. On the season, Kelley has racked up 98 kills with 52 digs and 25 total blocks.

CROSS COUNTRY
Mac Strehler, Washington and Lee, Jr.
Strehler, a junior from Moseley, Va., posted the ODAC's best eight-kilometer time of the season atthe Mike Woods Invitational hosted by SUNY-Geneseo. Strehler finished the race in 25:31.20, setting a new season-high mark by nearly 20-seconds. He was 19th overall out of 534 runners in a meet that feature multiple ranked teams.

CROSS COUNTRY
Hannah Chappell-Dick, Eastern Mennonite, Sr.
Chappell-Dick, a senior from Bluffton, Ohio, set a new personal-best on a wet course at the Paul Short Run, posting the ODAC's top six-kilometer time of the season. She stopped the watches in 22:00.60 to place 10th overall and third among NCAA Division III runners in the Brown race that featured 287 runners across all divisions.
