ODAC Players of the Week

FOOTBALL
Michael Messick, Shenandoah, Sr., Linebacker
Messick, a senior from Mechanicsville, Md., was all over the field in the Hornets' 34-17 triumph over Catholic on Saturday. Messick set a new Shenandoah record with 24 total tackles against the Cardinals, including 13 solo stops. The 24 tackles are the most recorded by an ODAC player since the 2006 season and two more than former Guilford defensive back Satiir Stevenson recorded last season. Messick also recovered a fumble, one of four turnovers registered by the SU defense. He also had 1.5 tackles for a loss, including his first full sack of the season. Messick currently leads the ODAC in overall takcles (84), solo tackles (44) and assisted stops (40). He's averaging a league-best 14.0 tackles per contest.

FOOTBALL
De'Eric Bell, Guilford, So., Running Back
Bell, a sophomore from Jackson, Ga., posted his fourth straight 100-yard rushing game to help the Quakers to a 23-20 victory at Bridgewater. Bell got the fireworks started early as he returned the opening kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown, setting a new school-record in the process. It's the second straight week he's gone the distance on a kickoff, adding to last week's 93-yard effort. He finished the day with 126 yards on two kickoff returns, with four more coming from punt returns and 20 via two receptions. The remained of his 254 all-purpose came on the ground as he carried the ball 21 times for 104 yards and a second touchdown, which covered a season-long 42 yards. Bell is currently third in the ODAC with 595 yards rushing and 99.2 yards per game via the ground. His 1,431 all-purpose yards are 524 more than the next closest ODAC player.

FIELD HOCKEY
Kelani Bailey, Shenandoah, Sr., Midfielder
Bailey, a senior from Norfolk, Va., put her stamp on all three goals of Shenandoah's goals this week as the Hornets posted a pair of overtime wins and sit atop the ODAC with a 4-0 league record. Bailey started her week by tallying the game's lone goal in the 79th minute for a 1-0 non-conference victory at Frostburg State. In a 2-1 double-overtime triumph over Washington and Lee, Bailey played a part in both goals. She assisted Alana Meadows on the first goal of the game, and then secured the Hornets' victory with her second goal of the week in the 99th minute of play. Bailey is currently second on the squad with 13 points on five goals and three assists.

GOLF
Ty Palmer, Guilford, Jr.
Palmer, a junior from Kernersville, N.C., finished sixth at the Golfweek Fall Invitational, which featured seven of the top-10 teams in the country and 16 of the top-26 squads, according to the latest rankings by Golfstat. Palmer led the 17th-ranked Quakers to seventh out of 18 squads in the team standings at 26-over 878 after three rounds on the 6,635-yard par-71 track at Raven Golf Club in Sandestin, Fla. Palmer opened with a 1-over 72 before moving to 1-under for the tournament with a 2-under 69 in round two. He finished with a second 1-over 72 to cap his week at even-par 213, five shots back of the individual medalist Chris Harris from Rhodes College.

GOLF
Olivia Bowling, Randolph-Macon, Sr.
Bowling, a senior from Charlotte Hall, Md., led Randolph-Macon at the Golfweek Fall Invitational, placing eighth of out of 90 golfers. Bowling opened with a 4-over 76 on the 5,846-yard par-72 layout at Baytowne Golf Club in Miramar Beach, Fla. She finished with a pair of 78's to post a 16-over 232 in a tournament that featured 10 of the top-30 teams in NCAA Division III according to the last rankings by Golfstat. Bowling's efforts helped R-MC to 12th (987) in the team standings. She is currently fourth in the ODAC with a 78.1 per round average.

MEN'S SOCCER
Adam Weisenborn, Bridgewater, Sr., Forward
Weisenborn, a senior from Barboursville, Va., picked the perfect time to score his first two goals of the season as Bridgewater collected its first two ODAC victories of 2015. Weisenborn opened with one tally in a 3-0 win over Eastern Mennonite. Then, in helping BC recover from a 1-0 halftime deficit against Hampden-Sydney, he scored the game-winning goal in the 70th minute to secure the win.

SWIMMING
Noah Schammel, Washington and Lee, So., Butterfly/IM
Schammel, a sophomore from Greenville, S.C., posted two individual wins, a third-place finish and helped W&L to second place in a relay as the Generals defeated Mary Washington in a head-to-head meet. Schammel won both the 100-yard and 200-yard butterfly events, stopping the watches in 0:53.57 and 1:58.54. He placed third in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:07.10. He and his teammates took second in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:39.58.

SWIMMING
Elisabeth Holmes, Washington and Lee, Jr., Freestyle
Holmes, a junior from Raleigh, N.C., competed for Washington and Lee in both a head-to-head meet with Mary Washington and at the ODAC Relays. Against UMW, Holmes won the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyles in 1:56.71 and 5:15.56, respectively. She placed third in the 100-yard free in 0:54.33. She and her teammates placed second in the 200-yard free relay in 1:41.27. At the ODAC Relays, Holmes was a member of four relaying squads, winning three times. The Generals won the 400-yard and 500-yard free relays in 3:38.23 and 4:47.09, while also claiming first in the 3x100-yard IM in 3:13.56. Holmes and her teammates were second in the 200-yard free relay in 1:40.84.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
Danielle Burris, Shenandoah, Sr., Midfielder
Burris, a senior from Cooksville, Md., put together a nine-point week as Shenandoah won a trio of conference games to move into a tie for second place in the ODAC standings. Burris opened with her biggest goal of the week, tallying in the 27th minute to defeat Washington and Lee, 1-0. She followed that up with a goal and an assist in a 4-0 victory over Randolph College. She finished by notching the second two goals in a 3-0 win at Emory & Henry. Burris is second on the squad with 14 points off five goals and four assists.

VOLLEYBALL
Tiffany Barrett, Virginia Wesleyan, Jr., Outside Hitter
Barrett, a junior from Stafford, Va., picks up her second straight and third overall weekly award of the season after leading the Marlins to four ODAC wins last week. She hammered out 58 total kills for a 4.46 per set average, posting a .364 hitting percentage along the way. She collected 49 digs (at 3.77 per set) and eight aces to with two blocks. She opened her week with a 22-kill 20-dig performance in a 3-1 win over Randolph, adding three aces. She went for 13 kills and 16 digs with two more aces in a 3-0 victory over previously ODAC unbeated Washington and Lee. She added 16 more winners and a .556 attack percentage in a 3-0 win over Emory & Henry. Barrett currently leads the ODAC with 347 kills and is third at 3.81 per set. Her .276 hitting percentage is fourth in the league.

CROSS COUNTRY
Harrison Toney, Roanoke, Sr.
Toney, a senior from Roanoke, Va., won for the third time in four races this season after claiming the individual title at the South/Southeast Region Preview hosted by Shenandoah University. Toney completed the eight-kilometer course in 26:25.5, which was 11-seconds clearr of second place.

CROSS COUNTRY
Hannah Chappell-Dick, Eastern Mennonite, Sr.
Chappell-Dick, a senior from Bluffton, Ohio, won for third time this season at the CNU Invitational, topping runners from NCAA Division I schools as well as the host Captains, who are ranked third in the South/Southeast Region. She came within two seconds of her personal-best with a six-kilometer time of 22:03.0 to win by 14 seconds over second place and 1:16 over the next fastest NCAA D-III time.
