ODAC Players of the Week - Week 3

FOREST, Va. --- The fall season was in full tilt during week three with men's golf joining the fray.  Those earning weekly awards include (pictured l-r, t-b): Andrew Osborne from Lynchburg men's cross country, Samantha Schreiber from Lynchburg women's cross country, Liza Freed from Washington and Lee women's golf, Jamie Agnew from Hampden-Sydney men's golf, Caroline Peters from Washington and Lee women's soccer, Lucas Morley from Catholic football, Tessa Tierson from Bridgewater field hockey, Will Dyson from Washinton and Lee football, Meg Guignon from Washington and Lee volleyball, and Juan Luna from Eastern Mennonite men's soccer.

ODAC Players of the Week

Thru Week Prior to: September 19, 2016

FOOTBALL
Will Dyson, Washington and Lee, Sr., Cornerback
Dyson, a senior from Indian Springs, Ala., helped spearhead the Generals' defensive unit in a 31-28 last-second loss to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday. Dyson tallied three tackles, three interceptions, and three other passes broken up in the contest. His second interception occurred on the W&L 2-yardline with 50-seconds remaining in the first half, preserving a 21-3 lead at intermission. Dyson is the first ODAC player to intercept three passes since 2014, tying for sixth all-time in the conference record books. He is the first General to pick off that many passes since Jake Pelton '13 nabbed a trio in the 2012 season-opener against Franklin & Marshall. For the season, Dyson has registered 10 tackles and four interceptions with four passes broken up.

FOOTBALL
Lucas Morley, Catholic, Sr., Wide Receiver
Morley, a senior from Olney, Md., moved to the top of the ODAC receiving rankings in touchdown receptions with four on Saturday in the Cardinals 37-35 victory over the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. Morley, the ODAC's leading receiver in 2015-16 with 100 catches, hauled in all four of his scores in the first half as Catholic built a 27-7 halftime lead. He caught TD passes of 20, 18, 8 and 21 yards on the way to the second four-touchdown game of his career. He finished the day with six catches for 113 yards, which marked his first 100-plus yard receiving day of the season. Morley's four touchdowns tie the ODAC's all-time single-game record, making him the only receiver to do it twice in league history. On the season, he leads the league with seven touchdown catches and is tied for second with 20 receptions.

FIELD HOCKEY
Tessa Tierson, Bridgewater, So., Forward
Tierson, a sophomore from Dover, Del., helped the Eagles to a 1-1 showing against a pair of top-16 programs last week. Tierson registered an assist in Bridgewater's loss (7-2) to 16th-ranked Mary Washington during the midweek. Then she provided the game's lone goal as BC rebounded for a 1-0 road victory at 14th-ranked Christopher Newport University. The victory was the Eagles' third over a ranked opponent in their last 10 games dating back to last season. Tierson has registered nine points on three goals and three assists this season, the latter tying for third in the ODAC.

GOLF
Jamie Agnew, Hampden-Sydney, So.
Agnew, a sophomore from Fairfax, Va., started off his 2016-17 campaign with a top-three showing at the Tom Kinder Memorial hosted by Bridgewater College. Agnew placed third overall at 2-under par 142 following rounds of 70 and 72 at the 6,769-yard par-72 Lakeview G.C. in Harrisonburg, Va. Agnew's efforts helped Hampden-Sydney to second place amongst 16 teams, just eight strokes behind Ferrum for the team medal.

GOLF
LIza Freed, Washington and Lee, Jr.
Freed, a junior from Alexandria, Va., kicked off her season with a top-five showing at the Dan Quayle Collegiate Classic hosted by DePauw University. Freed tied for fifth overall with two other players, carding rounds of 75 and 76 for a 7-over 151 at the 5,900-yard par-72 Deer Creek Golf Club in Clayton, Ind. Her efforts helped the Generals to seventh place among 14 teams.

MEN'S SOCCER
Juan Luna, Eastern Mennonite, Jr., Midfielder/Forward
Luna, a junior from Mount Jackson, Va., put together a nine-point week in helping Eastern Mennonite capture a pair of non-conference victories. Luna earned his first collegiate hat trick in a 4-3 back-and-forth affair at Ferrum. He scored twice early on to give EMU a 2-1 lead, and then came back to tally the winner with 1:35 to play via a bending free kick. Luna was back at it the Royals' 2-0 win over Albright as he had a hand in both goals, scoring in the 87th minute while adding an assist eight minutes earlier. For the season, Luna is second in the ODAC with 17 points and seven goals scored. He's tied for third with three assists.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
Caroline Peters, Washington and Lee, So., Forward
Peters, a sophomore from Charlotte, N.C., posted six points in the Generals' 2-0 showing last week. Peters began her week with the opening tally in a 3-0 road win at York (Pa.). She followed that up with two second-half to twice bring Washington and Lee even with St. Mary's (Md.) before eventually defeating the Seahawks, 3-2. For the season, Peters has registered seven points on three goals and an assist. Her three goals are tied for fifth in the ODAC.

VOLLEYBALL
Meg Guignon, Washington and Lee, So., Outside Hitter
Guignon, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo., picks up her second straight weekly award after leading Washington and Lee to a 4-0 week that included the Generals' first two wins over ODAC opponents. Guignon hammered out 65 kills and averaged 4.64 kills over 16 sets while hitting .305 for the week. She collected no fewer than 12 kills in a match, peaking with 22 kills and a .373 hitting percentage to with 15 digs in a 3-1 win at Bridgewater. She had 16 kills and nine digs in a 3-1 win at Averett, and added 15 kills and six digs in a 3-0 triumph over Meredith. She had 12 winners and eight digs in a 3-0 victory at Eastern Mennonite. For the season, Guignon is third in the ODAC with 137 kills and fifth at 3.26 kills per set.

CROSS COUNTRY
Andrew Osborne, Lynchburg, Sr.
Osborne, a senior from Lynchburg, Va., paced the Hornets at the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational as Lynchburg was the lone NCAA Divsion III squad to compete in the field. He chimed in 24th overall with an eight-kilometer time of 26:05.40. He helped LC to seventh place in the team standings that featured nine total squads with Lynchburg placed above Radford and Longwood.

CROSS COUNTRY
Samantha Schreiber, Lynchburg, Fr.
Schreiber, a freshman, led the Hornets' contingent at the Virginia Tech Alumni Invational where Lynchburg was the lone NCAA Division III school in the field. She finishe the six-kilometer course with a time 23:11.80 to place 23rd overall, besting several Division I competitors along the way. Lynchburg placed eight overall amongst nine teams, topping Longwood in the final standings.
