FOREST, Va. --- We're officially into spring season as the winter sports have come to a close following last week's ODAC championships for basketball and indoor track. Those earning weekly awards include (pictured, l-r, t-b): Chadwick Feeley from Washington and Lee baseball, Harley Jones from Randolph-Macon softball, Gerard DePhillips from Shenandoah baseball, Elliot Gilbert from W&L women's lacrosse, Peter Lindley from Roanoke men's lacrosse, Maz Zheng from W&L men's tennis, Gaby Tersigni from Randolph-Macon women's tennis, and Hanna Hull from Virginia Wesleyan softball.

ODAC Players of the Week

Thru Week Prior to: February 27, 2017

BASEBALL Gerard DePhillips, Shenandoah, Fr., Starting Pitcher DePhillips, a freshman from Florham Park, N.J., helped Shenandoah continue its early season success with a strong start in an 8-1 victory over Case Western Reserve University. Phillips worked 8.0 frames for the win, giving up one unearned run while scattering five hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out four. On the season, Phillips is now 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA and a .212 batting average against. He has fanned 10 and has yet to walk a batter in 14.0 innings of work. BASEBALL Chadwick Feeley, Washington and Lee, So., Shortstop Feeley, a sophomore from Jacksonville, Fla., put together four multi-hit outings with a double in each game in the Generals 3-1 week. Feeley started things off with a bang, tying the Washington and Lee single-game record with five hits (in six at bats) in a 10-5 win over Huntingdon College. He drove in one and scored a run. He collected two hits and plated a pair of runs in a 9-5 loss to Franklin & Marshall in game one of a three-game set. He against smacked a pair of hits with two runs scored and a RBI in an 11-6 win in game two. He finished his week going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a walk in a 7-3 victory over the Diplomats. For the season, Feeley is hitting .350 (14-for-40) with four doubles, five RBI, and eight runs scored. Click to learn more about the past week in ODAC BASEBALL

MEN'S LACROSSE Peter Lindley, Roanoke, Jr., Attack Lindley, a junior from Darien, Conn., put together a 12-point week in the Maroons two opening games of the season. In a 20-8 win over Birmingham Southern, Lindley scored four times and dished out an assist to go with two ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. He followed that with six goals scored and a assist in a 14-13 double-overtime setback to nationally 17th-ranked Denison. He picked up two more ground balls in that game. MEN'S TENNIS Mac Zheng, Washington and Lee, Jr., #4/5 Singles, #2/3 Doubles Zheng, a junior from Leawood, Kan., put together a perfect 6-0 week between singles and doubles action, helping Washington and Lee to a 2-1 team record. He won 6-0, 6-1 at #4 singles in a 6-3 win over Averett. He added an 8-2 win at #3 doubles in that match. Zheng moved to #5 singles against Virginia Wesleyan, winning 6-0, 6-0 to help W&L to a 9-0 victory over the Marlins. He won 8-1 in moving up to #2 doubles. The Generals then squared off with nationally 16th-ranked Johns Hopkins and fell 6-3. Zheng came back to win his #5 singles match, posting a 1-6, 6-4, 10-8 triumph. He added an 8-6 victory at #2 doubles. Zheng is now 6-3 in overall singles matches and 4-3 in doubles play between the fall and spring campaigns. SOFTBALL Hanna Hull, Virginia Wesleyan, Fr., Pitcher Hull, a freshman Chesterfield, Pa., was a strikeout machine in picking up two victories last week. Hull went the distance in shutting out N.C. Wesleyan, 5-0, and set a new school record with 18 strikeouts. She gave up just two hits and did not walk a Battling Bishop. Hull picked up her second win in a 9-1 triumph at Meredith. In six full frames, she gave up one unearned run on three hits with two walks and 12 punchouts to give her 30 strikeouts in 13 innings for the week. On the season, Hull is 3-0 with an ODAC-best 0.00 ERA as she has not yet allowed an earned run in 18.0 innings of work. SOFTBALL Harley Jones, Randolph-Macon, Jr., First Base Jones, a junior from Brodnax, Va., opened the season with a powerful display in helping Randolph-Macon start 4-0 with series' sweeps of Frostburg State and TCNJ. Jones was the difference-maker in game one against FSU, smacking a three-run shot in a 3-2 victory. She added another RBI with a double and a run scored in a 5-4 win in game two. Jones was back at it in a 4-3 win in game one against TCNJ, cracking a two-run homer and putting down a perfect squeeze bunt. She then collected a hit in her only official at bat with two walks with an 8-0 triumph in game two. For the season, Jones is hitting .444 with an ODAC-best 1.222 slugging percentage. WOMEN'S LACROSSE Elliot Gilbert, Washington and Lee, Fr., Goalkeeper Gilbert, a freshman from Bedford, N.Y., got some valuable big game experience and responded with two wins over top competition last week. Gilbert came away with seven saves and two ground balls in a 7-5 road win at Christopher Newport. She then helped the Generals' trounce then nationally fourth-ranked Franklin & Marshall, 9-3, with six saves, six ground balls, and four caused turnovers at home in Lexington. The wins helped W&L move up to #12 in the IWLCA weekly poll. For the season, Gilbert owns a 3.60 goals-against-average with 15 saves and a 62.5 save percentage in 150 minutes in the cage. WOMEN'S TENNIS Gaby Tersigni, Randolph-Macon, So., #2 Singles, #1 Doubles Tersigni, a sophomore from Yorktown, Va., got her spring season started in an 8-1 team win over St. Mary's (Md.). Tersigni, who has moved up to #2 singles this season, began her spring campaign against Marissa Romanek with a 6-0 whitewashing in the first set and followed with a 6-3 win in the second to clinch the match.
