Generals Sweep ODAC Commissioners Cups for Third Straight Season

R-MC, LC Set New School Records for Overall Rating

FOREST, Va. --- Washington and Lee University swept the ODAC Commissioners Cups for a third straight season, but it didn't come without competition in a top-heavy final standings for the league's three end-of-season trophies. Both runner-up Randolph-Macon College and third place Lynchburg College set school records in the overall standings and formed a trio with W&L that finished exceptionally close in the women's competition.

As determined by the ODAC Board of Directors, points for the ODAC Commissioner's Cups are based on regular-season standings in team sports and championship team finishes in individual/meet sports. Each institution has a total number of possible points it can collect based on its sport sponsorship. The total number of points earned is then divided by the total number of possible points to determine the rating for each institution.

Washington and Lee has now won 16 straigth Wooldridge Overall Championship Cups, 15 consecutive Women's Commissioner's Cups, and three straigh Men's Commissioner's Cups. Those totals sit at 22, 18, and 18, respectively.

The Generals got a sizable boost in standings points from the spring season where they earned first place points in five sports. On the men's side, W&L topped the ODAC in lacrosse and tied for first in tennis to go with a second place showing in golf. That resulted in a final rating of 0.863 after earning 97.5-of-113.0 points. In the women's ranks, W&L picked up maximum points in golf, lacrosse, and tennis towards 102.5-of-123.0 points earned and a 0.833 rating.

The women's cup proved one of the tightest competitions in league history. W&L's 0.8333 rating narrowly edging the 0.8214 showing by Lynchburg and 0.8196 by Randolph-Macon.

The men's cup standings weren't nearly as close with Washington and Lee running away with a 0.863 rating (97.5-of-113.0). Randolph-Macon finished second at 0.768 (64.5-of-84.0), while Lynchburg chimed in third at 0.656 (63.0-of-96.0).

Washington and Lee's overall cup rating of 0.847 (200.0-of-236.0) marks three straight years of final results over 0.800. W&L needed every bit of it with Randolph-Macon and Lynchburg setting school records in overall rating. The Yellow Jackets established a new standard for the second straight year, eclipsing last season's 0.754 mark with a 0.796 rating (144.0-of-181.0) this year. Lynchburg's previous high was 0.714 in 2012. This season, the Hornets racked up 155.0-of-208.0 points for a 0.745 posting.
