FOREST, Va. --- With a new month on the horizon, ODAC athletes continue to reach peak form in anticipation of full conference play. Those earning weekly honors include (pictured, l-r, t-b): Aislynn Smith from Shenandoah women's cross country, Austin Kinne from Washington and Lee men's cross country, Allen Smith from Hampden-Sydney men's golf, Christina Herbert from Bridgewater women's golf, Lauren Heffron from Roanoke field hockey, Fredy Flores from Lynchburg men's soccer, Miranda Hall from Randolph-Macon volleyball, and Alex Davidson from Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer.

ODAC Players of the Week

Thru Week Prior to: September 25, 2017

FIELD HOCKEY Lauren Heffron, Roanoke, Fr., Midfielder Heffron, a freshman from Glen Allen, Va., scored three times as Roanoke posted a 2-1 record that included a victory in its conference opener. Heffron provided the offense in that first win of the week against Bridgewater, chipping the Eagles' keeper just before halftime in the Maroons' 1-0 triumph. She then found the back wall of the cage twice in a 5-0 win over Transylvania, scoring the game's opening goal in the fourth minute and capping off the effort in the 41st minute. MEN'S GOLF Allen Smith, Hampden-Sydney, Fr. Smith, a freshman from Durham, N.C., helped lead the Tigers to the team title at the Shenandoah Invitational last week. Smith won individual medalist honors with a 3-under 139 following two rounds at the Winchester Country Club, which was set to par 71 at 6,367 yards. He opened with a 6-under 65, the lowest individual round for any ODAC player this season. He followed up with a 3-over 74 to win by one stroke over teammate Parker Smith (no relation). Smith's efforts helped H-SC post team rounds of 288 and 292 for a 12-over 580 total and an 18 stroke victory over second place Mary Washington. WOMEN'S GOLF Christina Herbert, Bridgewater, Sr. Herbert, a senior from Williamsburg, Va., earns her third straight weekly honor after winning individual medalist honor for the second time this season. In three overall starts, the 2017 NCAA Division III national champion has one runner-up and two event victories. She has won five of her last six events -- including the national championship -- dating back to last season. This past weekend, Herbert won the Bridgewater Invitational by 10 strokes over Allessandra Bertacche from Marymount (Va.). Herbert opened with an even-par 72 before posting a 2-under 70 for a 142 following two rounds at Lakeview Golf Club, which was set par-72 at 5,805 yards. Her efforts helped Bridgewater wrap up the team title at 47-over 623 that included a team-record 304 in the second round. For the season, Herbert leads the ODAC with a 72.5 per round average. MEN'S SOCCER Fredy Flores, Lynchburg, Sr., Forward Flores, a senior from Alexandria, Va., registered a pair of game-winning goals at opposite ends of the game clocks to help Lynchburg improve to 6-1-1 on the season. In a 1-0 victory at Berry, Flores beat the keeper in the ninth minute for the Hornets' first win of the week. At Roanoke in LC's ODAC opener, Flores didn't strike until late-on. After 90 minutes of scoreless regulation, Flores needed just 1:11 of overtime to seal a Hornets' triumph as his 92nd-minute header off a cross from Dan Freidberg clipped the underside of the bar and over the line for a 1-0 victory. WOMEN'S SOCCER Alex Davidson, Virginia Wesleyan, So., Forward Davidson, a sophomore form Virginia Beach, Va., put the Marlins on her back in a road win at Lynchburg for the second of two victories for Virginia Wesleyan last week. After peppering four shots on-goal in a 2-1 win at N.C. Wesleyan, VWU found itself in trouble down 2-0 at Lynchburg following the Hornets' second tally in the 58th minute. Davidson not only erased the deficit but put the Marlins ahead with three goals down the stretch. She registered her first goal in the 60th minute by burying a free kick and then leveled the score 2-all less than a minute later with a clinical finish. She hammered home the eventual game-winner in the 86th minute to secure a 3-2 comeback victory over the nationally 14th-ranked Hornets. For the season, Davidson is sixth in the ODAC with 13 points. VOLLEYBALL Miranda Hall, Randolph-Macon, So., Outside Hitter Hall, a sophomore from Mechanicsville, Va., put together a pair of near-dominant outings at the net to lead the Yellow Jackets to a pair of victories last week. Hall opened with 17 kills powered by a .394 attack percentage in a 3-0 triumph over Marymount (Va.). She added four digs and three blocks while accounting for 18.5 total points for a whopping 6.2 per set. Hall was again efficient with her attacks in a 3-0 win at Eastern Mennonite, registering 10 kills while hitting .292. She chipped in six digs, a pair of assists, and a block on the way to earning 10.5 total points. For the season, Hall has collected 127 kills for 2.95 per set, which ranks eighth in the league. MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY Austin Kinne, Washington and Lee, So. Kinne, a sophomore from Bolingbrook, Ill., was the top ODAC and Washington and Lee performer at the Hornet Harrier/Commonwealth Challenge hosted by Shenandoah University. Kinne posted a personal-best time at six kilometers, finishing the race eighth overall at 20:18.6. His efforts helped lead the 29th-ranked Generals to third place in the teams standings. WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY Aislynn Smith, Shenandoah, Jr. Smith, a junior from Manquin, Va., posted the top ODAC time at the Hornet Harrier/Commonwealth Challenge hosted by Shenandoah. Smith completed the five-kilometer course in 20:47.7 to place eighth overall and seventh among Division III competitors. Her efforts helped Shenandoah to third in the team standings with 108 points.
