Hollins Names Williams Strength & Conditioning Coach

ROANOKE, Va. --- Director of Athletics Myra Sims is pleased to announce the hiring of Leslie Williams to the position of Strength and Conditioning (S&C) Coach. Williams will begin working with the Hollins teams and student-athletes, on a part-time basis, this semester.

Williams has been a Coordinator of Curricular Initiatives at Virginia Tech since January of 2017. A position that she moved into after serving as a Graduate Assistant, Strength and Conditioning for Olympic sports before being elevated to Assistant S&C coach for Olympic Sports in August of 2015.

Sims has been eager to add the position since taking over the department last May. “Adding this strength & conditioning position is a tremendous step forward for Hollins athletics.” Continuing, “ Leslie is a great fit for our program. She has the background and experience that will allow her to provide a quality training program for our student-athletes.”

Williams is no stranger to small college athletics, having completed her undergrad degree in Exercise and Sport Science at Bluefield College. While in Bluefield, Williams was a four-year student-athlete for the Rams, competing in women’s tennis. A fact that was appealing to Sims, “Leslie’s personality and her own experience as a student-athlete at a small college will make her very relatable to our young women.”

After graduation, Williams spent a year in Conway, SC as an intern at Coastal Carolina working  in Strength and Conditioning. After which she returned to Blacksburg to complete her Master’s degree at Virginia Tech.

“I am honored to be a part of the Hollins University sports performance team. I look forward to serving the student-athletes through comprehensive program design, proactive training and practical application.” On her goals and philosophy, Williams continued. “My goal is to reduce the risk of injury, address and enhance physical performance, all while increasing mental and physical toughness. My training philosophy is rooted upon ground based, multi-joint, movements that stimulate realistic competition.”

Williams will begin immediately and have a few new pieces of equipment at her disposal. Two brand new half racks with state of the art moveable benches were delivered on Wednesday. In addition, a pair of solid oak platforms now adorn the Hollins weight room.
