Hollins Tabs Keagins as New Lacrosse Head Coach

ROANOKE, Va. --- Hollins Director of Athletics Myra Sims is pleased to announce that Kate Keagins will be the next head coach of the Hollins lacrosse program. Keagins will assume the day-to-day operations of the program beginning July 16th.

"We are extremely fortunate to have Kate Keagins take over the lacrosse program at Hollins. Kate has a good approach and a strong commitment to developing individual players while building a a strong team culture." Sims goes on the say, "She believes in keeping it fun, while also building a strong work ethic every day."

Coach Keagins comes to Hollins having been the head lacrosse coach at Coker College (Hartsville, SC) for the past two seasons, after serving as an assistant coach for the DII Cobras in 2016. In 2017, Keagins was named South Atlantic Conference Coach of the Year when her team posted the best record in program history. In addition to receiving the Coach of the Year award, Keagins coached the conference Player of the Year while the program received NCAA DII top 20 recognition.

Coach Keagins is a 2012 graduate of the University of New Hampshire with a degree in Psychology. During her time with the Wildcats, Keagins was an America East All Conference selection as well as being named to the 2009 America East All Rookie Team and earned IWLCA Northeast All Region honors. After her senior season, Keagins was voted America East Fan Voted Player of the Year.

After graduation, the Bay Shore, NY native began her coaching career at Longwood University of the Big South Conference. From 2013-15, Coach Keagins was responsible for organizing practices, recruiting, team travel, camps, clinics, as well as player development.

"Kate has extensive youth lacrosse and high school contacts in the mid-Atlantic region from her previous coaching stint in Virginia, so I am confident that she can help our program develop over time with strong recruitment of qualified student-athletes." Sims would conclude, "We are fortunate to have Kate lead the program and I am thrilled that our lacrosse student-athletes will have her as their coach."
