Lynchburg Leads All Three ODAC Commissioner's Cups thru Fall Seasons - ODAC

FOREST, Va. --- The fall review of the ODAC Commissioner's Cups presented by Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance features the same two squads atop all three tables for the second straight year, but the roles are reversed from the 2017 snapshot. The University of Lynchburg and Washington and Lee University are first and second in all three cup races with Lynchburg taking up the top spot in each.

Farm Bureau and the ODAC continue their partnership in focusing on the strength of the conference's student-athletes and maintaining the NCAA Division III philosophy of the complete student-athlete experience. Aside from supporting the ODAC Commissioners' Cups, Farm Bureau is the sponsor of the ODAC's sport-by-sport scholar-athlete awards.

As determined by the ODAC Board of Directors, points for the ODAC Commissioner's Cups are based on regular-season standings in team sports and championship team finishes in individual/meet sports. Each institution has a total number of possible points it can collect based on its sport sponsorship. The total number of points earned is then divided by the total number of possible points to determine the rating for each institution.

This is the third time in recent years that Lynchburg has headed all three cups at an inter-season review. In 2013-14, the Hornets led each race after both the fall and winter campaigns.

In the Wooldridge Cup standings, Lynchburg collected 64.5 of a possible 74.0 points from its fall slate of six sponsored sports for a 0.872 overall rating. Washington and Lee is not far behind with a 0.848 mark after picking up 69.5-of-82.0 from activity in seven sports. Bridgewater College and Randolph-Macon College had strong fall campaigns. The Eagles, also featuring a full allotment of seven sports, garnered a 0.817 rating at 67.0 points earned out of 82.0. The Yellow Jackets, which compete in five fall sports, gathered 43.5-of-57.0 points for a 0.763 mark. Roanoke College rounds out the top-five at 0.689 after earning 51.0-of-74.0 points from its six-sport profile.

A single half-point proved the difference for the three top schools in the ODAC women's cup table. Lynchburg and Washington and Lee participated in the same four sports with each eligible for 49.0 points. The Hornets earned 41.5 tallies for a 0.8469 mark to lead the chart, while the Generals total of 41.0 points brought them in on Lynchburg's heels at 0.8367.

The close comparison continued with third-standing Randolph-Macon. The Yellow Jackets earned 30.0-of-36.0 points from its three women's squads, assigning them a 0.8333 rating. Had R-MC earned just a half-point more, the Yellow Jackets would be sitting atop the standings (rating would be 0.8472). Bridgewater, meanwhile, is not far off the top spot either as the Eagles collected 39.5-of-49.0 points for a 0.8061 mark.

In the ODAC men's cup standings, Lynchburg missed out on just two points over its two sports -- one point each -- on the way to a 0.920 rating (23.0-of-25.0). Washington and Lee and Bridgewater both posted better than 0.800 ratings. The Generals earned 28.5-of-33.0 points from a full three sports for a 0.864 mark, while the Eagles were just one point back at 27.5-of-33.0 for a 0.833 rating.
