ODAC Players of the Week - Week 19

FOREST, Va. --- Men's and women's basketball remained the only sports in action thru the first week of the new year, but that didn't mean the performances didn't keep ODAC fans on the edges of their seats. Those earning weekly honors are Jayla Harris from Virginia Wesleyan women's basketball and Connor Schroeder from Lynchburg men's basketball.

MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Connor Schroeder | Lynchburg | Sr. | Forward
Schroeder, a senior from Blacksburg, Va., put together a stellar week in leading Lynchburg to a pair of victories to extend the Hornets winning streak to six straight games. Schroeder opened with 24 points and 12 rebounds for his third double-double of the season in an 87-73 victory over Averett. He was 10-of-20 from the field including 4-of-8 from deep. Schroeder then exploded for an ODAC season-high 40 points in an 89-75 triumph at Shenandoah. The 40 points are the most scored by an ODAC player and the first 40-point game in the league since former Virginia Wesleyan standout Khory Moore dropped 48 on Concordia (Texas) on November 19, 2016. Schroeder was 17-of-22 from the field in his effort, hitting 3-of-6 from beyond on the arc. He notched his 1,000th career-point in the process. He tacked on nine rebounds in 33 minutes on the floor. For the season, Schroeder is eighth in the ODAC in scoring (16.9) and seventh in total points scored (237). He is second in field goals made (97-of-183), fourth in three-pointers made (33-of-89), and 11th in field goal shooting (.530).

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jayla Harris | Virginia Wesleyan | Sr. | Guard
Harris, a senior from Fredericksburg, Va., put together a pair of strong efforts in leading the Marlins to two ODAC victories last week. Harris opened with 12 points to go with seven rebounds in a 76-56 triumph over Randolph College. She chipped in four assists and three steals in 36 minutes as Virginia Wesleyan's floor general. Harris then exploded for 28 points for her eighth game of at least 20 points scored in a 79-76 win on the road at Roanoke. She was 9-of-16 from the field, hitting both of her shots from deep in addition to going 8-for-8 from the foul line. She added three rebounds, five assists, four steals, and a pair of blocked shots to her performance. For the season, Harris leads the ODAC in scoring (19.9) and total points scored (279). She is #1 in field goals made (99-of-252), second in free throws made (57-of-66), and fourth in free throw percentage (.864). She leads the ODAC in overall minutes played (479) and third in minutes played per game (34.2). Harris is currently second on VWU's all-time scoring chart with 1,661 career points, trailing only Amy Simpson (1,910 from 1982-86).
