FOREST, Va. --- We're thru the first full week of competition of the 2019-20 athletic campaigns, with ODAC athletes showing they've been ready and waiting for this for a long time. Those earning weekly honors in football, field hockey, men's and women's soccer, and women's volleyball include (headshots; top-bottom, left-right) Jarrod Denham from Bridgewater football, Emily Dudley from Lynchburg field hockey, Courtney Berry from Washington and Lee women's volleyball, Chase Rosenthal from BC football, and Penny Senior and Gabby Nelson from Randolph-Macon men's and women's soccer.
This also marks the first week for the ODAC's new Athlete of the Week format. Multiple days will be used to honor the conference's athletes, with sports like field hockey, soccer, and volleyball announced each Monday in the fall. The ODAC Men's and Women's Cross Country Runners of the Week will be announced on Tuesdays, while the ODAC Men's and Women's Golfers of the Week will be awarded on Wednesdays. Football will maintain on Sundays and join Monday's athletes in the larger release.

FOOTBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Chase Rosenthal | Bridgewater | Jr. | Cornerback
Rosenthal, a junior from Chesapeake, Va., had a hand in two of the three turnovers forced by Bridgewater's defense and helped put points on the board in the Eagles 41-10 triumph over Gettysburg. Rosenthal, who made one tackle on the day, came up with a pair of first-half interceptions as the Eagles built a 34-0 edge at halftime. His first takeaway came late in the first quarter and with the Bullets pinned deep in their own territory. On the first play of the drive, Rosenthal intercepted a pass at the 8-yard line and scampered to the end zone for a 13-0 BC advantage. His second interception came a few minutes before halftime. With Gettysburg in BC territory, Rosenthal intercepted a pass at the Eagles' 28-yard line and returned it 36 yards to the Bullets 36. Three plays later, Bridgewater tacked on its final points of the half to go up 34-0

FOOTBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jarrod Denham | Bridgewater | Sr. | Running Back/Receiver
Denham, a senior from Alexandria, Va., was lightning in a bottle for the Eagles in their 41-10 season-opening victory over Gettysburg College. Denham touched the ball just three times in the contest, but all three resulted in touchdowns covering 14 or more yards. He opened the game's scoring early in the first quarter when he hauled in an over-the-shoulder throw from Jay Scroggins for a 41-yard touchdown reception. Denham etched his name in the BC record books with his second score midway thru the second quarter. He burst thru the line for a 93-yard touchdown run, marking the second-longest rush in school history. He found the painted grass for a third time early in the fourth quarter. Denham took an end-around hand-off 14 yards for the score, capping his day with 141 all-purpose yards.

FIELD HOCKEY PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Emily Dudley | Lynchburg | Jr. | Forward
Dudley, a junior from Westminster, Md., helped the Hornets to a 1-1 week in a pair of road games against key regional opponents. In a 3-2 double-overtime setback at Alvernia, Dudley followed up on her own saved effort and tucked in the rebound to knot the score 2-all in the 49th minute to eventually send the contest into overtime. Dudley was back on the scoresheet twice in Lynchburg's 7-2 triumph at Albright. She assisted Alexis Brown on the game's opening goal, and then ended the scoring in the 58th minute on a blast from the right point. Dudley's five points this week mark her first the season thru three games.

MEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Penny Senior | Randolph-Macon | So. | Forward
Senior, a sophomore from Kingston, Jamaica, helped the Yellow Jackets improve to 3-1 on the season with a pair of non-conference wins on the road last week. After playing a major role in Randolph-Macon's link-up play and aerial game in its 1-0 upset at nationally 15th-ranked Eastern, Senior put his name in the scorebook twice at Cabrini. With R-MC trailing, 2-1, late in the second half, Senior earned his first goal off a feed from Anthony Astruc in the 83rd minute. Much to Cabrini's surprise, Senior struck again with just 53-seconds left in regulation to secure a 3-2 victory for the Yellow Jackets. The goals scored against Cabrini are the first of his collegiate career.

WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Gabby Nelson | Randolph-Macon | Sr. | Forward
Nelson, a senior from Clover, Va., was ever-present on the scoresheet in each of Randolph-Macon's three wins last week, helping the Yellow Jackets improve to 5-0 in the early going. Nelson began her week by cracking open R-MC's account in the fifth minute on the way to a 3-0 triumph over Meredith. Then on the weekend at the D.C. Classic hosted by Catholic University, Nelson scored twice early in the second half to bust open a 1-0 halftime edge in an eventual 4-1 victory over Rutgers-Newark. In Randolph-Macon's final game of the week, Nelson unlocked a 0-0 draw in the 24th minute with an unassisted tally and then tacked on an assist on Nicole Czyzewski's goal in the 52nd minute for a 2-0 win over the host Cardinals. Nelson was named to the all-tournament team for her efforts. She has scored in four straight games and has registered at least one point in all five contests.

VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Courtney Berry | Washington and Lee | Jr. | Middle Blocker
Berry, a junior from Charlottesville, Va., earned a spot on the W&L Invitational All-Tournament Team after helping the Generals to a 2-1 showing over the weekend. Berry collected 48 kills over three matches and hit at a .488 clip while accounting for 55.0 total points at a 3.7 point-per-set mark. She opened with 15 kills and hit .393 with six total blocks and two digs in a 3-2 win over Gettysburg College. She followed up with 18 kills against just one error for a .739 attack percentage in a 3-2 win over Meredith. She registered three total blocks and a trio of digs. Berry capped her week with 15 kills while hitting .387 to go with four blocks and five dings in a 3-2 setback to Southern Virginia. For the season, Berry leads the ODAC with a .416 attack to percentage and 27 total blocks. Her 80 kills stand fifth in the early season.
