Lions Win Midweek Matchup 32-4 Over Emory & Henry

Demorest, GA- In the highest run total the Piedmont College baseball team has recorded in the NCAA era, the Lions won 32-4 against Emory & Henry College Tuesday night. Piedmont totaled 26 hits and 27 RBI in the game, both record-setting performances.

The Lions got the scoring started early with three runs in the bottom of the first and added another in the second to lead 4-0. The third inning was the quickest of the night and the only inning that neither team scored. 

Emory & Henry got on the board with a run in the top of the fourth, but Piedmont answered with seven of their own. That was one of two innings where the Lions would score seven runs, but Piedmont topped that with 10 runs in the eighth inning on nine hits in the frame including seven back-to-back singles. 

Freshman MAX BENING earned the victory for his second of his career after tossing five innings giving up six hits, two runs and striking out six batters. BARRETT COURTWRIGHT pitched two innings of work while TRENT CORBETT and P.J. DEJESUS both tossed an inning as well.

Turning Point
--A seven-run fourth inning made the score 11-1 and put the game out of reach for the Wasps.

Standout Performances
--CHRIS WHITE was 4-of-6 in the contest with four RBI and five runs scored including a 3-run home run in the eighth inning to cap off a 10-run performance by the Lions in the eighth.
--MICHAEL BARNES was an impressive 5-of-7 with five RBI and four runs scored as Barnes and White were the only two starters who played the entire contest.

Inside the Box Score
--White's five runs scored ties a program record for a single game. 
--Piedmont had three innings where they scored seven or more runs.
--The Lion pitching staff struck out 13 batters in the contest. 

News & Notes
--The game saw a combined 36 runs and 38 hits.

Piedmont will host the Piedmont College Spring Classic this weekend as Adrian, Birmingham-Southern and Marietta all travel to Demorest.
