Baseball Rebounds To Take 8-5 Decision From Visiting Washington & Lee University

Dale Bartek went 1-3 as the Lions defeated visiting Washington and Lee University this afternoon at Loudermilk Stadium by the score of 8-5.

DEMOREST, Georgia - The Piedmont College baseball team snapped a four-game losing streak this afternoon at Loudermilk Stadium by defeating visiting non-conference foe Washington and Lee University by the score of 8-5. After allowing four runs in the top of the first inning the Lions answered with eight runs on 10 hits to take the three-run decision.

The Generals opened the game four runs on as many hits in the top of the first to take control early. The Lions would answer in the third as CASEY PARHAM notched an RBI-sacrifice fly scoring MICHAEL BARNES who led the inning off with a single. PC would explode in the fourth with four runs on three hits highlighted by a KEVIN D'ANTIGNAC solo-homerun to left field.

Washington and Lee would respond in the fifth tying the score at 5-5 and also marking the first earned run allowed by the Lions bullpen in 26.1 innings of relief on the season. The Lions would quickly counter with a pair of runs in the home-half as AUSTIN BRICK notched an RBI-single and TATE KOONS added an RBI on a fielders choice.

Piedmont would add an insurance run in the seventh and take the final decision 8-5. ALLEN TOKARZ earned his first collegiate win going four and a third innings of relief allowing only one run while striking out a pair. JOSH THOMAS went two innings facing the minimum and Jake Brewster threw a perfect ninth with a strikeout for the save.

Brick and Barnes led the offense going 2-3 with a pair of runs scored respectively while D'Antignac added a 2-4 day with an RBI and two runs scored. LOGAN PETHEL and DALE BARTEK also chipped-in going 1-3 apiece.

The victory moves the Lions to 4-5 overall. The squad will return to Loudermilk Field on Friday, February 22 as they play host to visiting USA South Conference opponent Maryville College starting at 7:00.
