Softball splits exciting day of action

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College softball team split an exciting day of play at home today. They fell 3-1 to Frostburg St. at 12:00, before winning an extra inning game against Shenandoah 13-12. Logan Bowling led the team with 6 hits for the day. Salem is now 4-2 overall.

In the first game, Frostburg jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first before Salem got one back in the 3rd inning. Frostburg got an insurance run in the 5th. Brianna Morris allowed 9 hits and 1 earned run in the loss on the mound.

The second game was a back and forth affair. Shenandoah jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the 3rd, before the Spirits battled back for the tie in the same inning. The Spirits would take a 9-5 lead and then a 12-8 lead, before the Hornets tied it up in the 7th. Jennifer Vitarelli drove in Katie Bilbrey for the win in the 8th inning. Sydney Vaughn picked up her second win in a row on the mound.

Amanda Dacunto and Briana Crumley each had 5 hits today. Brittany Morton led the Spirits with 3 runs batted in. In game 2, Dacunto went 4 for 4, Bowling went 4 for 5 and Vitarelli and Logan Barefoot went 3 for 5.

The Spirits play two more home games tomorrow against Shenandoah and Randolph.
