NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The fifth-ranked CNU Captains men's soccer squad opened their season with a bang on Wednesday night, breezing past the Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jackets, 4-0. Four different players scored in the first half for head coach

The Captains would strike early, with the first goal coming in the 11th minute of action. After a foul against Randolph-Macon, CNU would set up a set-piece from
Brian Lybert, finding the head of
Sam Venker for the goal. Less than ten minutes later, the Captains would add another, again off an assist from Lybert. Off Lybert's corner kick, defender
Kyle Rose would head the ball into the left corner for the score.
CNU added two more in the first frame, as freshman
Alex Makumbi would factor into each. The rookie dribbled past two defenders in the box in the 31st minute before lofting his shot past the Macon keeper, and then in the 40th minute, found
Michael Zimmerman on the left side cutting inside his defender for the final tally.
The CNU defense was strong, allowing just two shots in the game in the shutout. Ethan Cornelio posted one shot on-goal for the Yellow Jackets and Matty Rocawich played the full 90 in goal, making seven saves.
CNU is back in action this Saturday as they play host to the 2010 VCAM/CNU Classic. Games will be at 5:00 and 7:00 pm on Saturday, 4:00 and 6:00 pm on Sunday. CNU's games will be against Haverford on Saturday at 7:00 pm and vs. Richard Stockton College at 6:00 pm on Sunday.
