PC Returns Serve vs. Emory & Henry Claiming Rematch 3-1 Win from Wasps

Location: Emory, Virginia - Bob Johnson Court at the King Center

Emory, VA - Matching up for the second time in 2016 with the Wasps of Emory & Henry College, the Piedmont College volleyball team took care of business this time around winning in straight sets over the ODAC foe on the road Monday evening.

Piedmont had fallen to the Wasps 3-1 in their only meeting earlier this season, a showdown in the Greensboro College Invitational and the Lady Lions' only loss that weekend.

In the opening set, the two nearly went point for point before Emory & Henry opened up a three-point lead at 18-15.  However, Piedmont would win eight of the next nine rallies to overtake the Wasps in a 25-21 winner in the first.

The second set was another close one as the Wasps took a two-point lead late on three straight points at 22-20 before one of ANNA WRIGHT's game-high 11 kills and an E&H attack error helped Piedmont pull level at 22.  Though the home team won the next rally, Piedmont would take the final three points of the set for a two set lead in the match.

Coming out of the ten minute break, Piedmont dominated in the third turning a 4-4 tie into a 15-4 lead with 11 straight points highlighted by three kills from Senior AMANDA TROTTER who posted eight in the game.

The Wasps could never recover from the deficit in the decisive third as Piedmont went on to claim a 25-16 victory for the straight sets win on the road.

Turning Point
--A timeout by Emory & Henry with the second set tied at 23 couldn't save the Wasps as Piedmont erased a late deficit and came out of the timeout winning the next two straight to win 25-23 taking a two-set lead in the match.

Standout Performances
--It was the ANNA WRIGHT show throughout the evening as the freshman tallied 11 kills to lead the way offensively with a .280 hitting percentage, her third best hitting showing of the season.
--AMANDA TROTTER was the most efficient hitter on the night for either team posting a .375 with eight kills compared to just two errors.
--LAINEY CHOINIERE posted 26 assists compared to 14 from E&H leader Sam McCauley.

Inside the Box Score
--Piedmont was nearly twice as efficient as the Wasps on the attack in all three sets doubling up the hitting percentage of the home team in the first two before outhitting E&H .250 to .148 in the third.
--The Lady Lions again held the edge in aces as well with seven compared to two for the home team.

News & Notes
--The Lady Lions came into the night winless in two rematch tries during the 2016 season falling in both encores with Transylvania and Greensboro this year.
--Tonight's contest was the first out of conference since a September 17 two-match day that ended with a showdown vs. Transylvania.

Up Next
The second of this two-game road trip as Piedmont heads to North Carolina for a 6:30 pm first serve with Salem College on Tuesday, October 11.  The contest is a conference match for the Lady Lions and it wraps up a four-match stretch over four days for PC with the last two coming on the road.
