NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's women's lacrosse squad defeated visiting Guilford, 18-6, on a rain-soaked Captains Field Sunday afternoon.

The Captains got out to an early 8-3 lead at the break and cruised to the win.

Alyssa Burke paced CNU with six goals. Katie Doherty finished with three goals and four assists, Kaitlin Quigley had two scores and three helpers and Meghan Harkey added two goals and two assists.

Christine Mike scored three times, Shayna Sargent had one goal and one assist and Chrissy Rogers finished with one goal.

Christopher Newport out-shot the Quakers, 43-15. CNU picked up 27 ground balls to Guilford's 10 and Gayle Robinson made seven stops in the cage.

The Captains improve to 1-1 on the year while Guilford falls to 1-3. CNU returns to action Saturday when they host Greensboro at 3 pm.
