Big Second Half Gives CNU Women’s Lacrosse Win over Virginia Wesleyan, 13-11

Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Meghan Harkey scored six as CNU women's lacrosse defeated the Marlins, 13-11, improving to 6-3 on the season.

The goals started almost immediately with Kaitlin Quigley striking first just three and a half minutes into the game. Harkey followed up with her first goal just two minutes later with a Virginia Wesleyan goal coming thirty seconds after that at 24:33. Harkey answered with two more goals giving the Captains a 4-1 lead.

Virginia Wesleyan pushed back and scored seven goals in the remaining 20 minutes of the first half while CNU only netted two more which put Virginia Wesleyan on top 8-6 at the half.

CNU came back with intensity in the second half and scored three unanswered goals, two of which were free position shots, giving CNU the 9-8 advantage. The goals started to go back and forth with VWC scoring two followed by two from CNU. The Marlins struck at 8:17 with a goal from Nikki Slayers tying the game at 11-11. Natalie Gilbert scored off a pass from Meghan Harkey to give CNU the lead at 6:11. Quigley scored her third goal of the day with 2:43 left in the game to seal the victory for CNU.

CNU led in shots with 28 to VWC's 25 and also led in groundballs with 25 to VWC's 23.

Gayle Robinson had seven saves in the game for the Captains.

The Captains return to action on Friday, April 2, as they host LeGrange College at 4:00 pm.
