RC Splits on First Day of ODAC Softball Tournament

Salem, Va. – Roanoke split on the opening day of the 2016 ODAC Softball Tournament Friday.

Roanoke 3, Lynchburg 1
RC's Taylor Asimakopoulos and Emily Salsberry combined to allow just one run to lead the Maroons to the 3-1 victory in the day's opening game.
Taylor Carter struck out to lead off the game but reached on a passed balls. Carter then stole second and came around to score on a Katie Smith double to make it 1-0.
Cater got things going again in the third inning when she singled to start the inning, stole second and scored when Mattie Morris singled to make it 2-0.
With RC leading 2-1, the Maroons got an insurance run in the fifth inning when a Morris sacrifice fly brought in Smith who doubled to open the inning.
LC threated in its last at bat putting runners on second and third with one out by Smith made a diving catch in the foul territory for the second out then Salsberry recorded a strikeout to end the game.  

Virginia Wesleyan 4, Roanoke2
In the night cap, Kandis Kresinske allowed just five hits and Mary Shipp stranded the tying run on base as top-seeded Virginia Wesleyan held on for a 3-2 win.
With VWC leading 1-0 in the fourth inning RC rallied to tie the game when Carter singled to lead off the inning, moved to over to second on a bunt and tied game on Ruthie Williams.
VWC pushed across two runs to take the lead but RC had a chance to tie putting a pair of runners on with one out in the seventh but Shipp got the final two outs to seal the game.

RC will be back in action on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in an elimination game versus Randolph-Macon.
