ODAC Players of the Week

Thru Week Prior to: March 2, 2015

GOLF
Ty Palmer, Guilford, So.
Palmer, a sophomore from Kernersville, N.C., kicked off the spring season by leading the Quakers contingent at the Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate. Palmer placed seventh overall, helping GC to tie for second in the team standings at 593 (293-300). In a tournament that featured eight teams from the current Bushnell Golfweek Division III Coaches' Poll, Palmer opened with an even-par 72 before posting a three-over 75 to finish at three-over 147. Guilford is currently ranked 14th in the country. The Quakers tied fourth-ranked Methodist and beat #2 Oglethorpe in the team standings.

GOLF
Mary-Frances Hall, Washington and Lee, Fr.
Hall, a freshman from State Road, N.C., helped lead the Generals to second place at the Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate, just two strokes behind Dalton State. Hall was the individual medalist in the tournament, posting a seven-over 149 to win by three strokes. The victory marks her second of the season. She opened with a three-over 74 to help W&L to a team round of 313, the best of any in the tournament. Hall finished with a four-over 75, besting Paige Hartman from St. Andrews by three strokes. Hall now owns a 76.5 average over 10 rounds thru the fall and early spring.

MEN'S LACROSSE
Blake Mann, Bridgewater, Fr., Attack
Mann, a freshman from Milton, Del., put together a monstrous week for the Eagles, helping them to three non-conference victories. Mann scored 16 goals and dished out three assists on the week as Bridgewater defeated Hanover (11-6), Southern Virginia (21-10) and Methodist (13-7). He opened with three goals and an assist against Hanover, also picking up four ground balls and causing a turnover. He followed that by setting new single-game program records with 10 goals and 11 points against SVU. The 10 goals match the highest total in NCAA Division III from last season. He added three ground balls and a caused turnover. Against Methodist, Mann scored three more times with an assist. For the season, Mann leads the ODAC with 18 goals scored and is tied atop the conference with 21 points.

MEN'S TENNIS
Turner Votipka, Guilford, Sr., No. 1 Singles, No. 1 Doubles
Votipka, a senior from Nashville, N.C., put up the deciding point in Guilford's 5-4 win over Averett. The Quakers' top singles player won from the top flight, 3-6, 6-1, 10-5, over James Wright to secure GC's victory. In doubles play, he and Erik Meiler defeated Carlos Lora and Nic Quevedo, 8-4, at the #1 position.

SOFTBALL
Casey Snead, Guilford, Jr., Pitcher
Snead, a junior from Ellerbe, N.C., led the Quakers to an 18-2 win over Greensboro in early season softball action this week. Snead went the distance in the shortened game, firing five innings and giving up two runs on six hits. She surrendered five free passes and struck out one. She also helped herself at the dish, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored, three RBI and a stolen base.

SOFTBALL
Caroline Barnette, Guilford, Jr., Second Base
Barnette, a junior from Matthews, N.C., helped the Quakers go 1-1 against Greensboro by hitting .750 and reaching base nine times. She went 6-for-8 in the doubleheader, collecting three hits in each contest. She was 3-for-3 in a game one loss (5-4), also walking once. She came back with a 3-for-5 effort with two runs scored, a double and a triple. Barnette leads the ODAC early on in hitting with a .500 average (14-for-28).

WOMEN'S LACROSSE
Shannon Jamieson, Randolph-Macon, Jr., Attack
Jamieson, a junior from Cypress, Texas, helped the Yellow Jackets open their season with a 2-0 week with wins over Marymount University and Christopher Newport University. She scored six goals overall, starting with three in a 12-8 win at Marymount (Va.). She followed that with a second hat trick in a 12-9 triumph over CNU. She was 3-for-4 in free position goals for the week. Her six goals are fifth in the ODAC in the early going.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
Brooke Donnelly, Washington and Lee, So., No. 1/2 Singles, No. 1/2 Doubles
Donnelly, a sophomore from Kennesaw, Ga., helped the Generals to a 2-1 record and fifth place at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship. Donnelly went 2-1 in singles play and 3-0 in doubles action as the 20th ranked Generals fell to seventh-ranked Carnegie Mellon (5-4) before defeating 17th-rated Skidmore (5-4) and #21 Sewanee (6-3). Donnelly won at #2 singles and #2 doubles against CMU, earning 6-3, 6-2 and 8-6 victories, the latter with Meghan Buell. She moved to #1 singles and doubles against Skidmore, winning 6-1, 6-0 and 8-3, again with Buell in doubles play. Donnelly split against Sewanee, winning 8-6 win Buell at #1 doubles and falling 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 at #1 singles.
