Six ODAC Players Tabbed to All-South Region Squads
FOREST, Va. --- Randolph-Macon College
junior first baseman Jordan Walton (pictured) heads a list of six
ODAC award winners from the American Baseball Coaches Association
(ABC). Walton was tabbed a First Team All-American, and
earned a spot on the All-South Region First Team. Five other
ODAC players were named to the All-South Second and Third
Teams.
Walton adds these two awards to several previous honors including
Second Team All-ODAC, the MVP of the 2011 ODAC Baseball Tournament,
and D3baseball.com Second Team All-American.
Walton shattered the NCAA single season doubles record with
31, eclipsing the previous record of 27. He led the nation with 84
hits, which also broke the ODAC single-season record. The
previous league mark was 77 hits.
In helping the Yellow Jackets to their fourth ODAC title, Walton
drove in a conference-best 57 runs and ranked second in the ODAC
and 13th in the country with a .452 batting average. The
Mechanicsville-native finished the season with 131 total bases,
which led the ODAC and placed him fourth in the nation.
Three ODAC standouts earned a spot on the All-South Region Second
Team. Guilford College first baseman Kyle Wooden (.467, 17
2B, 2 HR, 29 RBI), the 2011 ODAC Player of the Year, pairs this
honor with the Second Team All-American nod he received from
D3baseball.com. Virginia Wesleyan College catcher
Jacob Pierce (.379, 18 2B, 6 HR, 25 RBI) and 2011 ODAC Pitcher of
the Year, Gregg Laswell (4-1, 2.01 ERA, 67.0 IP, 70 K, 12 BB) from
Washington and Lee University, picked up their first non-league
postseason awards.
Two more conference student-athletes were voted to the All-South
Region Third Team. Bridgewater College third baseman Jay
Thompson (.342, 9 2B, 2 HR, 16 RBI) and Lynchburg College
righthander Matt Morgan (5-1, 2.07 ERA, 69.2 IP, 43 K, 19 BB)
complete the ODAC's ABCA contingent.
