Yellow Jackets Eliminated from Further Tournament Competition

MILLINGTON, Tenn. --- Fifth-seeded Randolph-Macon was eliminated by top-seeded Huntingdon 5-0 Thursday in the NCAA Division III South Regional at USA Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets finish the 2013 season with a 23-19-1 record and an ODAC championship.

Senior right-hander Michael Helbig (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) pitched well, but suffered the loss in his final collegiate start. He allowed five runs, but only one was earned, in 7.1 innings with eight hits, three walks and two strikeouts. Freshman righty Tanner Phillips (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) retired the final two hitters in the eighth, while sophomore left-hander Brandon Beiler (Paradise, Pa./Pequea Valley), sophomore right-hander J.T. Williamson (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) and sophomore lefty Sid Harvey (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) each recorded an out in the ninth.

The Hawks snapped the scoreless tie in the top of the fourth. Tyler Blackwell had a one-out single, moved to second on a groundout by Austin White and came home on a double to left center by Evan Agnew to make it 1-0.

Huntingdon added an unearned run in the sixth as Blackwell was hit by a pitch, was sacrificed to second, stole third and came home on a throwing error to make it 2-0. The Hawks added three unearned runs in the eighth to stretch the lead to 5-0.

The Jackets put a pair in scoring position in the bottom of the first. Senior outfielder Jeb Weymouth (Rockville, Va./Hanover) had a two-out single and moved to third as freshman outfielder Michael Trentham (Midlothian, Va./James River) reached on a two-base error, but both were stranded as a strikeout ended the frame.

Senior infielder Austin Carpenter (Richmond, Va./Steward) had a pinch-hit single to lead off the eighth, but the Jackets left runners.
