Wheaton (Mass.) Holds Shenandoah Scoreless in NCAA Baseball Regional Action

YORK, Pa. --- Third-seeded Wheaton (Mass.) sent Shenandoah University into the elimination bracket of the York Regional with a 6-0 victory over Hornets early Saturday morning.

In a game that started at 10:45 p.m. ET and finished just before 1 a.m., the Lyons (25-14) scored single runs in the fourth and fifth along with two runs each in the seventh and eighth to down SU (37-9).

The initial run, which proved to be the game-winner, came home on a Michael Bugonowicz wild pitch. Zach Goodwin-Boyd led off the Wheaton fourth with a ground rule double to center, advanced to third on an infield single and trotted home on the wild pitch.

Wheaton starter Trevor Marques (3-1) was outstanding, shutting out the Hornets and allowing just four hits.

Donnie Forgacs had two of those hits with singles in the third and fifth. Dan Cameron and Abel Arocho contributed singles in the seventh and eighth, respectively.

Arocho's single to center extended his hitting streak to 16 games.

Marques, making just his fourth start of the season, struck out nine in the complete game performance.

His defense helped him out by turning a pair of double plays.

Bugonowicz (6-2) allowed the six runs (five earned) on eight hits and four walks in 7 2/3 innings. He struck out eight before turning it over to Matt Burns for the final out of the eighth. Burns allowed two inherited runners to score before getting a strikeout looking.

Coach Kevin Anderson's club will now face Lesley (Mass.) in a 1:15 elimination contest Saturday afternoon. The winner of that game plays at 7:45 Saturday night against the winner of the 10 a.m. Elizabethtown vs Alvernia game.
