Read the ODAC Football Report: Week 9
Week nine of the ODAC football season came and went with a
flurry, leaving fans with a three-way tie atop the standings.
Hampden-Sydney College handed Guilford College it's first
loss of the league slate, while Randolph-Macon College joined those
two squads at 4-1 following its win over Shenandoah University.
Washington and Lee University picked up its second straight
win with a triumph over Catholic University, and Bridgewater
College notched its first conference win at Emory & Henry
College.
Hampden-Sydney traveled to Guilford and came away with 52-0
shutout of the previously ODAC-unbeaten Quakers. Quarterback
Nash Nance, the ODAC Offensive Player of the Week, accounted for
five Tigers touchdowns, throwing for three and rushing for two more
as part of his game-high 92-yards on the ground. He hit nine
different receivers, including touchdown passes to Holton Walker,
Joey Kernan and Eric Gorsline. Defensively, the Tigers held
the Quakers to just 118 total yards (compared to 444 for H-SC).
Scott Markland (pictured), the ODAC Defensive Player of the
Week, had a big day up the middle, recording three tackles for a
loss including 2.5 of H-SC's seven quarterback sacks. He also
recovered a fumble. Zach Morgan returned an interception 41
yards for a score. Guilford got nine tackles apiece from
Daytwyn Rascoe and Satiir Stevenson, while Stevenson joined
teammate JerMario Gooch atop the ODAC ranks with his third
interception of the season.
Randolph-Macon brought a balanced attack to the table in topping
Shenandoah, 42-7. Zac Naccarato completed 13-of-14 passes for
198 yards and two touchdowns, while John Byrd (72 yds, 2 TDs) and
Will McGhee (64 yds, 1 TD) led R-MC to 198 yards on the ground.
McGhee increased his ODAC-leading rushing total to 1,321
yards. Matt Williamson and Greg Petrohovich caught TD passes
from Naccarato, while Petrohovich tossed a 58-yard score
to Austin Cundiff. SU quarterback Justin Neff was
15-of-17 passing for 144 yards and a touchdown pass to Brandon
Adams. Defensively, Michael Wroble set the Hornets' tackles
record with 19 stops, including 13 solo efforts. Marcus
Mitchell led R-MC with eight tackles.
Washington and Lee scored first, but trailed Catholic midway thru
the third quarter before an 8-yard TD run by Marshall Hollerith
with 10:14 to play posted the game's 14-10 final margin.
Hollerith recorded a career-best 184 yards rushing on 35
carries (5.3 average). Luke Terna (68 yards) opened the
game's scoring with a 3-yard TD burst. Catholic got its
points from a TJ Tutone to Tucker Hubbell 44-yard touchdown pass.
Andrew Ouellette made 10 catches in the contest, matching
Hubbell's game-high 74 yards receiving. R.J. Allison led CUA
defensively with a game-best 12 stops and a fumble recovery.
Walter Ramsey also recovered a loose ball to go with a
W&L-high 11 tackles.
Bridgewater notched the first 21 points of the game and led 34-10
with 12:15 to play in its 34-17 triumph at Emory & Henry.
Quarterback Willie Logan put his mark on four BC scores,
throwing for 291 yards and three TDs on 19-of-25 passing in
addition to a 1-yard TD plunge. Nick Wimer, Cliff Woodard and
Cassidy Burns caught the touchdowns from Logan. E&H got
241 yards passing and a 68-yard touchdown pass to Lucas Kirby by
Kyle Boden. Jonathan Turpin had a one-yard touchdown run.
Chandler DeHaven kicked two field goals (46 and 24 yds) for
BC, while Austin Breed hit one (23 yds) for E&H.
Defensively, Andrew Palmer led BC and all players with 11
stops, including two TFLs and a pass breakup. Jack Wecker and
Sonny Romine recorded interceptions. David Crouch led the
Wasps with 10 stops, while Randall Conley registered a quarterback
sack.
