Guilford also Recognized in Preseason Poll

FOREST, Va. --- Hampden-Sydney College was one of two ODAC squads to earn recognition in the D3football.com Top 25 Preseason.  The Tigers were slotted 21st by the national outlet, while Guilford College picked up five votes towards the rankings.  Reigning national champion, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, garnered all 25 first place votes towards the top spot in the survey.

Hampden-Sydney (9-3 overall, 6-1 ODAC in 2013) and 2013 ODAC Coach of the Year, Marty Favret, are slated to return eight All-ODAC honorees from last season's title squad that topped Maryville College (Tenn.) in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament and nearly earned a spot in the quarterfinals after pushing second-ranked Linfield College to the brink.  Leading the list of returnees are six All-ODAC First Team standouts including quarterback Nash Nance (Jr - 3,504 yds, 27 TDs passing; 545 yds, 17 TDs rushing), wide receiver Holton Walker (Sr. - 111 rec, 1,723 yds, 16 TD), defensive linemen Scott Markland (Sr. - 38 tkl, 7.5 tfl, 3.0 sacks) and Shaq Thomas (Jr. - 28 tkl, 8.5 tfl, 5.5 sacks) and defensive back John Moore (Sr. - 66 tkl, 6.0 tfl, 1.5 sacks).

Guilford (6-4, 5-2 ODAC) has made marked improvements in the first three seasons under head coach Chris Rusiewicz.  The Quakers are expected to return 8-of-9 all-conference honorees, including first team wide receiver Adam Smith (Jr. - 41 rec, 780 yds, 8 TD), defensive back Satiir Stevenson (Sr. - 81 tkl, 4 INT, 2.5 tfl) and kicker/punter Tyler Hunt (43.1 ypp, 6-of-12 FG).  Quarterback Matt Pawlowski (Jr. - 2,373 yds, 24 TDs) and running back Josh Schow (1,023 yds, 4.6 ypc, 11 TDs) were All-ODAC Second Team selections.
