The 2014 season kicked off this past weekend with each of the
ODAC's eight squads playing against non-conference competition.
All but two teams were on the road, with the conference going
4-4 overall. Two of those victories proved to be shutouts as
Guilford College and Shenandoah University blanked their
opponents.
Catholic University got the season started on Friday evening,
falling to fourth-quarter surge from McDaniel, 34-31. Weather
got in the way of several games on Saturday, including the
postponement of Shenandoah's tilt at Gallaudet University.
The didn't phase the Hornets as they shutout the Bison, 20-0.
Guilford also did a bit of whitewashing, keeping Greensboro
out of its red zone all afternoon on the way to the first shutout
in the 18-game history of the Gate City Soup Bowl, 52-0.
Bridgewater College used some late magic in the fourth quarter to
pull out a 33-32 win at Gettysburg College. Washington and
Lee University fell in a tight contest at Averett, 20-17, and
Randolph-Macon College ran into a strong Johns Hopkins team out of
the gate, falling 42-3 to the Blue Jays. Hampden-Sydney
College made the trip to Wabash College for a top-20 matchup the
was dubbed "The Gentelmen's Classic" as both schools are the only
all-male institutions in NCAA Division III. The Tigers were
topped by the Little Giants, 34-21.
