Just three teams were in action in week four, and they brought
home a trio of wins as all non-conference action is now complete.
Bridgewater College and Emory & Henry College joined
Guilford College at 3-0 in the overall standings, while Catholic
University picked up its second win of the season.
Bridgewater got a strong day from special teams and a shutout from
its defense in the second half as the Eagles topped Apprentice
School, 32-16, on the road. Catholic racked up 471 yards of
total offense, including 232 on the ground, in racking up a
season-high point total in its 54-25 triumph at Anna Maria College.
Emory & Henry overcame a 20-0 deficit and a 200-yard
rushing performance by Sewanee's running back in the Wasps 44-27
victory at Sewanee.
CUA running back Matt Perno (pictured) and BC defensive back
Darrick Gore earned the ODAC Offensive and Defensive Player of the
Week awards. Perno ran for 161 yards and three touchdowns to
lead the Cardinals ground explosion. His scoring runs covered
27, 67 and six yards. Gore had a hand in all three turnovers
forced by the Eagles defense. He recovered a first half
fumble and picked off a pair of fourth quarter passes, returning
one 20 yards for a touchdown and setting up the BC offense for a TD
with his second.
All eight ODAC squads are back in action next Saturday as each
opens up the conference portion of their schedules. Three
games start at 1:00 p.m., including Hapmden-Sydney College at
Catholic, Randolph-Macon College at Emory & Henry, and
Washington and Lee University at Guilford. Shenandoah
University heads to Bridgewater for a 7:00 p.m. start.
