Generals Wins Second Straight ODAC Football Play of the Week Fan Poll

FOREST, Va. --- Conference play kicked off in week five, which lent us four plays for the fifth installment of the ODAC Football Play of the Week fan poll.  Washington and Lee University's big 51-yard field goal by Matt Underhill secured the Generals' second straight win, out-pacing Bridgewater College in the online voting.

The kicking game can have a big effect on the outcome of a game, especially in a tight contest.  That's exactly what we had in W&L's win over Guilford.  Matt Underhill stepped up with 5:35 to play, and from a distance rarely seen in NCAA Division III.  He booted a 51-yard field goal to give the Generals' a 20-10 lead in what would become a 20-17 victory.  The 51-yarder set a new school-record and is the second-longest recorded kick in ODAC history.

This week's four nominees were viewed more than 900 times on YouTube and the ODAC website.  Underhill's big boot that eventually proved the difference in defeating Guilford garnered 44.2-percent of the vote, besting Bridgewater (28.2%) upon the poll's closing.

Be sure to follow all the conference's participating schools and the ODAC on Twitter (@odacathletics) and Facebook as we continue throughout the season.  And checkout the ODAC's YouTube channel (click or search odac1976) which will host all of the plays throughout the 2015 season.
