FOREST, Va. --- Washington and Lee University's explosive 498 yards rushing against Guilford College didn't require further validation afte being etched into the ODAC record books as the fifth-best performance all-time, but it got it with the Generals claiming their second ODAC Football Player of the Week fan poll win of the season. Charlie Nelson's 75-yard touchdown burst out-paced three other nominees in this week's feature.
Nelson, the W&L quarterback, contributed his longest run to a Generals' rushing attack that rattled off 498 yards and seven touchdowns midway thru the third quarter. Nelson used a little mis-direction to free himself up, faking a hand-off to the right before darting thru the line on the left. He sprinted about 45 yards before being forced to cross the field for the remaining 30 yards of a 75-yard touchdown run. The score gave W&L a 40-27 lead with 6:44 showing on the third quarter clock. The Generals would go on to defeat Guilford, 48-34.
This week's four nominees resulted in nearly 1,100 interactions on YouTube, Instagram, and the ODAC website. Nelson's run against Guilford received 57.8-percent of the vote from ODAC football fans.
