Randolph-Macon won for the fifth straight week as the Yellow Jackets shutout Shenandoah for three quarters on the way to a 45-14 victory in Winchester. Washington and Lee and Hampden-Sydney also reached 40 points with the Generals topping Emory & Henry, 40-29, and Hampden-Sydney doubling-up Bridgewater, 42-21.
Thursday was supposed to mark the week's first contest, but weather forced Ferrum and Guilford to a Friday evening matchup. The Quakers picked up a one-point victory, 28-27, thanks in part to a blocked PAT on Ferrum's possible game-tying touchdown.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Hampden-Sydney quarterback Alec Cobb, a senior from Jamestown, N.C., put together his second five-plus touchdown day in the last three weeks in the Tigers 42-21 victory at Bridgewater. Cobb threw four touchdown passes and ran in a fifth to offset one interception. He went 28-of-42 passing for 352 yards while completing passes to six different receivers. Cobb posted the game's first touchdown midway thru the first quarter as he dove the pylon following a 14-yard scamper to the end zone. He used his legs on his first TD pass as well, rolling out to his left and throwing against his body to Nick Kallivokas for a 12-yard score with 9:14 on the third quarter clock. Then came three long TD passes as he and Ed Newman connect catch-and-run plays of 37 and 68 yards followed by a 26-yard scoring pass. For the season, Cobb leads the ODAC in completion percentage (66.3%) and yards per game (409.0). He's second in yards (2,045), touchdowns (13), completions (163), attempts (246), and passing efficiency (148.7).
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Washington and Lee linebacker Will Corry, a junior from Watkinsville, Ga., continued making impact plays for the Generals defense in Saturday's 40-29 victory over Emory & Henry. Corry came thru with seven tackles featuring a pair of sacks in addition to a forced and recovered fumble. His two sacks resulted in a loss of 16 yards from scrimmage for E&H. Early in the second quarter, Corry strip-sacked the Wasps quarterback, picked up the loose ball, and returned six yards for a touchdown and a 27-0 advantage. Washington and Lee's defense has returned a fumble for a touchdown in each of its past two games after going nearly 12 years without one. Corry has racked up 34 tackles on the season including 6.5 sacks, which is tied for first in the ODAC with Guilford's Jarrod Russ. He is #1 in the conference in tackles for loss (11.5) and yards lost on sacks (-43) and tied for first in force fumbles (2).
