Bridgewater's Run Ends in Round of 16

GENEVA, N.Y. --- The Bridgewater College field hockey team saw its postseason run end in the NCAA Sweet 16, as the Eagles fell 6-0 to #6 William Smith on Saturday.

Alessandra Patrizio and Fallon Adair each scored twice for the hosts.

An attempted BC clearance was blocked in the opening minutes, but Marisa Sims kicked away a shot by Patrizio. A ball then skipped through to Patrizio in front of goal, with her shot just missing the right post.

Sims made another kick save on Maura Moran in the opening 10 minutes, with Sarah Rozell clearing away a potential dangerous rebound.

Another Eagles clearance was taken away by Alexandra Frary in the 13thminute. Frary crossed to Patrizio at the left post and she knocked it in to open the scoring.

Again William Smith took possession back in a dangerous position. Hannah Wood attacked quickly and passed to Adair for a 2-0 scoreline.

Freshman Tessa Tierson earned a penalty corner for the Eagles but a pair of Bridgewater shot attempts were blocked. The Herons won a corner at the other end and Hannah Wood blasted a shot into the corner off the stick stop for a 3-0 Herons lead.

William Smith made it 4-0 just 2:12 later, on an unassisted tally by Patrizio.

The Herons would add two more early in the second half, despite a couple good stops from substitute goalkeeper Hannah Rioux (five saves).

Bridgewater concludes its season with a record of 13-9, the second-highest win total in program history. The Eagles were making their first appearance in the NCAA Sweet 16.

William Smith improves to 18-2 and will host the winner of Franklin & Marshall vs. Middlebury in the national quarterfinals.
