Washington and Lee's Tucker Named an All-American by the NFHCA

GILBERT, Ariz. --- Washington and Lee University forward Haley Tucker was tabbed a Third Team All-American by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) on Wednesday. She is the third General to earn such a distinction, joining fellow third team selections Maggie Waxter and Kendall Korte in 2016 and 2007, respectively.

Tucker's All-America nod highlights six athletes who previously earned All-South Region honors from the NFHCA. Joining Tucker on the First Team are the Lynchburg College duo of defender Hannah Krause and forward Nikki Simpao. Fellow Hornet and front-line player Jackie Lerro was tabbed to the second team along with Roanoke College defender Kaylin Stenson and W&L midfielder Maggie Sands.

Tucker, a junior from Manakin-Sabot, Va., was third in the ODAC this year in goals (20) and points (45). The 20 goals set a new W&L single-season record. The previous mark of 19 had stood since 2003. Tucker's 45 points also tied the school's single-season record. Waxter also had 45 points in 2016. On the W&L career lists, Tucker moved to fourth in career goals (38) and fourth in career points (89).

Earlier this season, Tucker became the third General in program history to be named the ODAC Player of the Year. The First Team All-ODAC selection helped lead W&L to a 15-5 record and the program's second ODAC title. The 15 victories, which included the squad's first NCAA Division III Tournament win, tied the program for wins in a season.
