Lynchburg's NCAA Run Closes in Field Hockey Quarterfinals

SALISBURY, Md. ---The University of Lynchburg field hockey team's dream postseason run came to an end Sunday afternoon with a 2-0 defeat at the hands of No. 3 Salisbury.

The Sea Gulls (20-1) played stifling defense for 60 minutes, holding Lynchburg without a shot in the contest. The loss stopped the Hornets' win streak at 15 games.

Lynchburg's defense held up in the first half as junior goalkeeper Laurel Nicks made eight of her 14 saves.

Salisbury broke through in the first minute of the third quarter, however, when Arielle Johnson scored following a penalty corner. SU added an insurance goal in the 51st minute off the stick of Jenna Partilla.

Lynchburg's field hockey season ends with the Hornets' record at 20-4, just the third 20-win season in the program's storied history.
