Lynchburg Headlines the ODAC Field Hockey Preseason Poll

FOREST, Va. --- ODAC field hockey returns to its traditional fall setup following the first spring season in league history a few months ago. In addition to the calendar, familiarity greets fans with the University of Lynchburg featuring at the top of the 2021-22 ODAC Field Hockey Preseason Poll.

Lynchburg earned seven first place votes from league coaches on the way to a chart-topping 63 points. Washington and Lee University collected the remaining two top nods to sit second with 54 tallies. Hot on the Generals' heels is Shenandoah University with the Hornets earning 53 markers.

2021 SPRING ODAC TOURNAMENT | BRACKET

  • Top-seeded Lynchburg and #2 Washignton and Lee met for the conference championship; both teams received bye thru the quarterfinal round in the ODAC's six-team framework
  • Lynchburg trailed #3 Shenandoah, 4-2, with nearly 45 minutes gone in the semifinals, but two late goals forced overtime and setup Jackie Lerro's winner in the 69th minute for a 5-4 triumph to advance to the ODAC final
  • #4 Roanoke took a 1-0 lead just 1:40 into the contest against W&L in the second semifinal, but goals by Grace Amaden and Tess Muneses just five minutes apart late in the fourth quarter propelled the Generals to their first ODAC final since winning the league crown in 2017
  • Lynchburg got two fourth quarter goals from Emily Yanes to add to the one scored by Brittany Claybaugh in the second frame on the way to a 3-1 win over W&L in the conference championship game
  • The win marked a third straight title for the Hornets and the 21st in program history

THE SCHEDULE AND TOURNAMENT

  • The nine-team ODAC contingent will play a full eight-game round-robin conference schedule to each team's non-conference schedule.
  • The top-six teams in the ODAC standings will qualify for the ODAC Tournament with the winner of the tournament earning the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
  • This year's ODAC Tournament will feature quarterfinal play at the #3 and #4 seeds on Tuesday, November 2, followed by the semifinals on Thursday, November 4, at the #1 and #2 seeds. The ODAC championship will be played at the highest remaining seed on Saturday, November 6.
  • The NCAA Tournament field will be selected on Sunday, November 7, with first round play beginning on Wednesday, November 10. The national semifinals and championship are set for November 20-21 at Robin Sheppard Field in Hartford, Conn.
