Generals Historic Season Ends with Loss to Rowan

GLASSBORO, N.J. --- The ninth-ranked Washington and Lee field hockey team's historic season came to an end on Sunday in a 3-0 loss at fourth-ranked Rowan in the NCAA Regional Final.

The Profs (18-2) scored the first goal just six minutes into the contest. A pass was sent in to the center of the circle to first-year forward Julia Patrone. Her first attempt was stopped by senior goalkeeper Sara Amil (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex), but her follow up found the left side of the cage to give Rowan a 1-0 advantage.

The Profs extended the lead to 2-0 a minute and a half into the third period. With the ball right side, junior forward Bridget Guinan dribbled into the circle near the end line and passed to Patrone. Patrone struck a shot that was blocked, but junior forward Krystyna Hovell pushed it across the line on the left post to double Rowan's lead.

The Profs tallied their final goal with eight minutes to go in the contest off the stick of Guinan.

Rowan led in shots in the game, 22-1, and took seven penalty corners compared to one by the Generals (18-1).

Amil played all 60 minutes for the Blue and White, making a career-best 12 saves. Sophomore goalkeeper Abby Hainsworth registered one save in 60 minutes.

The loss ends the season for the Generals, who set a program record for wins with 18 this year, set a new program-record winning streak with 18 straight and advanced to the NCAA Regional Final for the first time in program history.
