WLU Wins ODAC Golf Championship
Guilford's Latimer Top Individual Finisher
CAPE CHARLES, Va. --- Washington and Lee
University shot the best team round of the tournament on Monday
afternoon as the Generals gained 11 strokes on round two leader
Guilford to overtake the Quakers for the 2009 ODAC
Championship. Guilford's Peter Latimer fired his second
straight round of 76 to win individual honors. Roanoke's Adam
Skaff finished second and Bridgewater's John Phillips was
third.
Washington and Lee finished with an 85-over par total of 949
following its final round 309 on Bay Creek's Jack Nicklaus
Signature Course. All of the Generals' five competitors
finished in the top 23 with Andrew Green tying for the best round
of the day with a 75 to move into a tie for 18th place
(91-80-75---246). Robert Womble (82-77-78) and Brad Watts
(82-75-80) finished in a three-way tie for fourth with Roanoke's
Branden Ketron (85-77-75) at 237, 21-over-par. W&L's Joe
Gibson (81-81-76) finished tied for seventh with Bridgewater's Mike
Redwood (83-76-79) at 238, and Matt Langan rounded out the
Generals' quintet in 23rd place at 249 (84-79-76).
Latimer's victory marks his second straight individual win in a row
following his triumph at the West Regional at the Terravista
Country Club in Round Rock, Texas. Latimer led the ODAC
tournament throughout, beginning with his opening round 73 which
tied for round of the tournament with Lynchburg's Ryan White
(92-73-82---247). Latimer then shot a pair of 76's in the
final two rounds to win the individual crown by 10 strokes over
Skaff (82-75-78---235). Phillips finished one stroke back of
Skaff with a 236 (76-79-81).
