Roanoke Wins Team Award in Playoff with Randolph-Macon

NELLYSFORD, Va. --- Roanoke College won a playoff with Randolph-Macon College to earn the Maroons the 2010 Virginia State Intercollegiate team title on the Stoney Creek Golf Course at Wintergreen Resort on Sunday.  Both teams carded two-round scores of 606 (38-over-par).  Washington and Lee University senior, Tim Gavrich (pictured) fired a pair of 1-under rounds of 70 on the par-71 6,853-yard track to win individual medalist honors by four strokes over teammate Wilson Anthony (71-73--144).

ODAC schools claimed the top four spots with Washington and Lee and Hampden-Sydney College coming in third and fourth, respectively.  Virginia Wesleyan College finished eighth in the nine-team event.

Roanoke was paced by a trio of top-10 scorers.  Brandon Ketron placed in a tie for fifth at 7-over par (70-79--149).  He was followed closely by Patrick King (72-79--151; +9), who tied for seventh.  Rob Pepi was one of three golfers locked in 10th position after he carded rounds of 75 and 77 (152; +10).  Randolph-Macon earned his second top-five finish of the year with a 6-over-par 148 (75-73).  Scott Hellmuth finished just three strokes back in a tie for seventh (77-74--151; +9).
