Ratner Finishes Third, One Stroke Back
GREENSBORO, N.C. --- Guilford College
posted rounds of 292 and 299 to finish five shots clear of
Huntingdon College to claim the team title at the Greensboro-Gordin
Classic on the East Course at Grandover Resort and Conference
Center. The Quakers' Noah Ratner shot a tournament-best 68 in
round one to help him to a third place showing, just one back Chris
Morris (Centre) and Justin Tereshko (Transylvania), who tied for
top position. Tereshko won medalist honors by virtue of a
second-round scorecard playoff.
Ratner finished at even par on the 7,100-yard par 72 track.
He shot 76 in round two to finish at 144. Alex Wise
carded a top-10 total as he finished at #3 with rounds of 73 and
74. Mat Henick (tied-15; 77-73--150; +6) and Dusty Roberts
(tied-22; 75-76--151: +7) also scored for the Quakers. J.T.
Thomas shot 161 (76-85) to finish 17-over-par.
Bridgewater carded rounds of 313 and 310 to finish 14th in the
18-team field. Travis Gahman continued his early season
success, finishing just outside of the top 10 at 12-over
(74-74--148). Mike Redwood (tied-22; 72-79--151; +7), John
Phillips (tied-67; 83-78--161; +17), Michael Hankins (t-75;
84-79--163; +19) and Todd Foshee (tied-82; 86-80--166; +22) also
competed for the Eagles.
This year's event was dedicated to the memory of longtime Guilford
golf coach Jack Jensen, who died suddenly last March in the midst
of his 33rd season as the Quakers’ golf coach. The
tournament served as a preview of the 2011 NCAA Division III
Championships, which will be held at Grandover May 10-13. It
featured 14 of NCAA Division III's top-25 teams, according to the
Oct. 4 Golf World/NIKE Golf Division III Coaches’
Poll, including all of the top-five squads. Top-ranked Greensboro
College, second-ranked Huntingdon, third-ranked Methodist,
fourth-ranked Skidmore College and fifth-ranked St. John’s
made this Division III's top fall tournament. Guilford is the
poll’s seventh-ranked team.
Hosted by the Greensboro Sports Commission, Guilford College and
Ohio Wesleyan University, the tournament is named for longtime Ohio
Wesleyan golf coach Dr. Richard Gordin, who was on hand to make the
award presentations.
