Generals Place 14th at NCAA Women's Golf Championships

Freed and Hall, BC's Herbert Named WGCA All-Americans

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. --- The seventh-ranked Washington and Lee women's golf team finished in 14th-place out of 21 teams at the 2015 NCAA Division III Championship at the Mission Inn Resort on Friday.

The Generals completed the four-day event with a 336-353-335-340—1364 (+212) to finish 100 strokes behind the team champion, Williams College.  The Ephs carded 319-322-309-314—1264 (+112) to win their first-ever women's golf championship.

Mary Hardin-Baylor's McKenzie Ralston was the individual champion after posting a +13 score of 74-71-79-77—301.  She won by four strokes over Macy Hubbard of Wittenberg, who carded a 78-80-72-75—305 (+17).

W&L was led by first-year Liza Freed (Alexandria, Va. / St. Stephen's & St. Agnes), who placed in a tie for 18th out of 110 golfers with a +33 score of 81-81-82-77—321.

First-years Caroline Holloway (Gainesville, Fla. / Oak Hall) andMary-Frances Hall (State Road, N.C. / Elkin) both tied for 47th overall with +49 scores of 337.  Holloway carded an 80-93-79-85—337 and Hall posted an 84-88-80-85—337.

Junior Sara Moir (Roanoke, Va. / Hidden Valley) completed the tournament in a tie for 86th-place after posting a score of 91-91-94-93—369 (+81) and first-year Dana Droz (Lancaster, Pa. / Veritas Academy) tied for 92nd with a 91-93-94-96—374 (+86).

The night prior to the final round, Freed and Hall earned recognition at Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-Americans.  Hall was tabbed to the second team, while Freed earned honorable mention laurels.  Generals mentor Pete Gyscek earned WGCA East Region Coach of the Year honors, adding to his ODAC Co-Coach of the Year accolade.  He helped W&L engineer an incredible turnaround as a third-year program after finishing 104th out of 125 Division III teams just one season ago.

Additionally, Bridgewater College freshman Christina Herbert joined Freed as an honorable mention All-American.  Freed, Hall and Herbert were joined by Randolph-Macon College junior Olivia Bowling on the WGCA All-East Region Team.
