SUFFERN, N.Y. --- Randolph-Macon College
junior Olivia Bowling picked up right where she left off last
season as the 2013-14 ODAC Women's Golfer of the Year won
individual medalist honors at the NYU Invitational at Spook Rock
Golf Course in Suffern, N.Y. The Yellow Jackets placed fourth
out of 11 teams at the season-opening event.
Bowling, a junior from Charlotte Hall, Md., opened up a three-shot
lead following the first round of play, firing an even-par 72 over
the 5,809-yard layout. She improved her lead by one on
Sunday, carding a two-under 70 to finish at two-under 142 for the
tournament, winning by four shots over Michelle Peng from
Middlebury College. Bowling was the only player to finish
under-par for the tournament.
The win is the fifth for Bowling in her career. She won once
during her rookie campaign in 2012-13 and three times in 2013-14,
incluidng the 2014 ODAC Women's Golf Championships at Rock Barn
Golf & Spa in Conover, N.C.
Randolph-Macon's two-day total of 661 placed fourth overall in the
11-team event. The Yellow Jackets posted 333 on day one and
improved by five strokes in round two (328). Tournament host
New York University won the team crown at 620 (320-300).
