BC's Herbert, Warring, W&L's Freed Selected for NCAA Golf Championships

FOREST, Va. --- Three individuals will represent the ODAC in the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships set for later this month in Houston, Texas.  Two will wear Bridgewater College colors as Christina Herbert and Marin Warring picked up at-large nods along with Washington and Lee University's Liza Freed.

The NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships will be played at Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston with the first of four rounds slated for May 10.  The field consists of 111 participants comprised of 21 teams and six additional individual competitors.

The ODAC's contingent occupies three of those individual spots.  Herbert, Warring, and Freed finished 2-3-4 at the conference championships at Stoney Creek Golf Course, while the trio owns the top three averages in the league.  Herbert is currently the fifth-ranked player in the country by Golfstat.  She was in the running for the ODAC individual medal, ultimately coming in second following rounds of 77, 77, and 72 for a 10-over 226.  She leads the ODAC with a 75.0 per round average, having won four times in nine starts this season.  She claimed victories in three straight events to start the season, standing atop the charts at the Lynn Schweizer Invitational, Generals Invitational, and Bridgewater Fall Invitational.

Warring is slotted 27th in the national Golfstat rankings following her third place showing at the ODAC Championships.  She finished at 15-over 231 after carding rounds of 82, 76 and 73.  Armed with the ODAC's third-best average at 77.7, Warring hasn't won a tournament this season, but she has posted eight top-five finishes in nine total starts.  That included second place performances at the Bridgewater Fall Invitational and Hollins Spring Invitational as well as third place showings at the Lynn Schweizer Invitational, Wintergreen Shootout, and Browngolf Intercollegiate.

Freed surrounded a tough second round 86 at the ODAC Championships with rounds of 76 and 75 to place fourth overall at 21-over 237.  Currently ranked 17th by Golfstat, Freed finished in the top-10 five events with top-five showings four times in six total events this year.  Twice she finished as the runner-up at the St. Mary's (Ind.) O'Brien Invitational and the Generals Invitational, while placing fifth at the Jekyll Island Collegiate and sixth at the TaylorMade-adidas Intecollegiate.
