W&L's Farley Wins NCAA Division III Men's Golf Elite 90 Award

ROCHESTER, N.Y. --- The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has announced that Washington and Lee sophomore Luke Farley (Durham, N.C. / Trinity School) is the recipient of the Elite 90 Award for the 2016 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship.

Farley, a mathematics major, was presented with the award during the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship banquet held on Monday evening at 7:00 pm at the Midvale Country Club.

The Elite 90, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships.

Eligible student-athletes are sophomores or above who have participated in their sport for at least two years with their school. They must be an active member of the team, traveling and a designated member of the squad size at the championship. All ties are broken by the number of credits completed.

Farley was a First Team All-ODAC honoree this spring and he finished second out of 50 golfers at the ODAC Championship with a score of 72-76-77—225 (+9).  Thus far, he has recorded a 74.47 stroke average across 17 rounds this year.

Washington and Lee earned its trip to the NCAA Division III Championship by winning the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament on April 24-26.  The Generals won by 12 strokes over Guilford College to claim their 13th all-time ODAC title.
