W&L's Freed Leads ODAC Players at NCAA Women's Golf Championships

HOUSTON, Texas --- Washington and Lee University sophomore Liza Freed leads the ODAC's contingent of three golfers at the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships in Houston, Texas.  Freed sits tied for 23rd after 36 holes at Bay Oaks Country Club.

Unlike the men's tournament, the women's competition does not feature a cut following the first two rounds.  All 109 golfers will particpate in the final two rounds, including Freed and Bridgewater College teammates Christina Herbert and Marin Warring.

Individual Leaderboard

Freed is 12-over par after 36 holes on the 5,869-yard par-72 layout at Bay Oaks.  She opened with a 7-over 79 before improving by two strokes with a 77 in round two. She started well with a par and a birdie on Wednesday afternoon, but that would be her lone stroke under-par for the day as she carded six bogeys and 10 pars the rest of the way.

Herbert took the opposite track on the way to joining three other golfers in a tie for 27th at 13-over 157. She carded a 77 in round one that saw her recover from a triple bogey on the 11th hole, her second hole of the day after starting on 10.  She posted an 8-over 80 in the second round.

Warring looks to crack 80 in the third round after finishing day two tied for 46th at 18-over 162. She opened with an 80 and posted an 82 over her next 18 holes. Both rounds featured one birdie apiece.

Play continues on Thursday in the third round. Warring tees off at 1:05 p.m. CT, while Freed and Herberty hit the course in the final threesome at 1:15 p.m. CT.
