W&L's Freed Leads ODAC at Rain Shortened Women's Golf Championships

HOUSTON, Texas --- The 2016 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships saw the final round washed out halfway thru competition as heavy rains forced an early conclusion to play. Final scores reverted back to those of after the third round for all players.  Washington and Lee University's Liza Freed posted the top score of the ODAC's trio, tying for 18th overall.

Tournament Results

Freed had risen into a tie for 15th after nine holes on Friday, but the round was called due to weather and the third round results became the official tally. Caroline Ordian of The Redlands claimed the individual championship with a 73-70-75—218 (+2).  Freed finished 14 strokes in back of Ordian with a three-day score of 79-77-76—232 (+16). She also placed 18th in the 2015 NCAA Championship.

Bridgewater College sophomore Christina Hebert finished in a tie for 31st place, while senior Marin Warring finished tied for 46th overall.  Herbert was +5 through 10 holes in the final round when play was halted. She birdied the tough par-3 14th hole.  Warring had birdied her starting hole (#10), #16, and rolled in a six-footer for birdie on #2 right before the weather horn sounded.  That proved to be her final collegiate hole.
