New Tabbed to Lead Sweet Briar Golf Program

SWEET BRIAR, Va. --- Interim Athletics Director Donna Hodgert has announced the hiring of Adam New as the head golf coach at Sweet Briar College. New will take over the program and focus his efforts on recruiting and continued quality play.

"We look forward to welcoming Adam to our team,” said Hodgert. “I have seen first hand how he works with his players and I am especially excited about his teaching skills and ability to keep players in the right mindset during a round. Our student-athletes will benefit from his approach to the game of golf as well as the game of life."

New comes to Sweet Briar from Holy Cross Regional Catholic School in Lynchburg, where he has served as the varsity golf coach since 2014. New will continue his full-time work as a health and movement education teacher for Holy Cross, while coaching the Vixens part time.

Dedicated to building the Holy Cross golf program, New saw his hard work pay off this past spring when he coached the VISAA Division II Individual State Champion. In addition, Holy Cross has served as the host school of the VISAA Championships the past two years.

New began working on August 1 and will begin fall practices with the golf team once classes begin.
